I know this post is sooo old but..... I have a piece of the advertising that very few people seem to have heard about or ever seen...... It is on a XJ750M Midnight Maxim I pulled out of a garage after sitting since 2009.

If you want to look up old TV ads you can try archive.org they have a whole bunch of them, I've never looked.

Welcome, I have the same bike that I took off the road at about the same time you pulled yours out of the garage. That sissy bar/backrest is really cool, I've never seen one so it's probably pretty rare also.
I used my '83 MidMax for a daily driver but the fuse panel and brake systems have seen better days so with other bikes in the stable to ride I figured I'd refurbish it one day, It just may be that day has come seeing yours in splendid glory.

          1979 XS1100SF (stock-euro mods planned)
          1984 XV700L Virago (to be hot-modded)
          1983 XJ750MK Midnight Maxim (semi-restored DD)
          1977 XS650D ( patiently awaiting resto)

Sometimes it takes a whole tank of gas before you can think straight.

Here's your "Don't Follow Anyone / The Way It Should Be" theme.

            This is gold, too.

[QUOTE=xsroadrunner;n485619]The only ad campaign I remember back in the 80's (I think) was "Yamaha...Go your own way."

This is the one I remember as well....

It stuck in my head because Fleetwood Mac had a song by that title...from their Rumors album 1977
