I was sitting here thinking (Usually end up in trouble) and wondering if someone had the cylinders bored and honed, why it would take more than a couple hours to put back together even with just two hands. If it's assembled outside the bike, a second set would be nice for engine installation, but besides that... what's the tough part? Unless everyone is just sitting around drinking that good Texas beer... Hey now... that's an idea!! Mr. under 21 Meathead (Hobbyman).... he's the hands and we can supervise and point!.. lol.
But honestly, it shouldn't be that big a stretch to split the cases (Just to show how it's done) do the 2nd gear fix (Along with any others that may need it), redo the clutches, then slap it all back together including the big bore pistons and bored/honed cylinders... stab it in the bike.. slap the head and valve cover on.. carbs.. oil line... a few electrical connections etc.. and fire the thing up?? Maybe alot of info to try to soak in, but honestly it's pretty do-able in a day.
Other topics may be to do the final drive mod, (I wholeheartedly donate my bike for this one) go completely through a set of carbs including the float bowl adjustment and synchronizing, maybe a fork rebuild... anything else?

Just my worthless 2 cents worth.

Looks like March is rounding out to be the month for this gig. Since I am pretty close, I am up for most anytime. I can easily bribe the family herd with a day at Six Flags while I wrench on bikes.

With that said, I can have all the parts on hand for a clutch replacement, springs, fibers (soaked), and case gasket. I figure the steels are within spec. If someone has an extra steel, that could be added also. Ya gotta remember though, I am riding this rig there, so I hafta be able to ride it back. (Lets not "snap the star") Front brake system rebuild is also on my list of "want to do's". The clutch job is a "hafta do". Thinking back, its been way to long since I have been able to run 'er thru the gears without having to back off as my worn clutch rears its ugly head. While my fork seals are solid, this is another quick and easy (once you have done it) job that is high on alot of lists.

Another thought would be a clinic on how to post pics and other forum features. While I can rebuild a carb in the dark, my efforts to post picts and other bits of information has brought my computer ingnorance to the surface quickly.

unfortunately, it does not appear that I would be able to attend this event, but it sure is beginning to sound like this should be the first in the long-awaited, much-anticipated, How-To Video . Besides, what a better start for the video series, "meet" some of the other members, see some of the proceedures "first hand"; and most importantly, discovering how many beverages are required to properly complete the job!

I have an entire used clutch assembly, so I have some steels, and a star plate, should the unthinkable happen. Ya, know if eveybody interested in doing this does show up, with parts in hand, and with all of the tools that I have here, there isn't much that we couldn't do. We could have two or three repairs going at the same time.

Just think John, we could have all your tools strung out around the garage, the driveway, AND the front yard! lol.. You'll have to come up with some sort of check-out system like the library! lol.

Quick, someone get one of those metal detectors from the airport!

Lets get a mental picture of this now, a bunch of bikes show up, wrenches start flying, ya have one bike in the garage turning 4k with a unbaffled kerker trying to find the "flat spot". A new clutch gets installed on one and that guy is in the street doing his best Russ Collins burnout imitation and trying to see if he can pull a sub 10 in a block. There goes the neighborhood!!

Actually, it would be nice if all these projects did show up and we got everthing on film. With that said, i am going to hold off on the clutch job till the "meeting of the minds". Ya might want to warn the neighbors now and notify the cops.

I've seen some of John and Kat's neighbors. I believe the ones directly across from them.... you wouldn't have to worry about them calling the cops. I believe he'd just come take care of the problem himself! lol. They say he's a nice guy.... I'll take their word for it! lol.

BUT ..... they do have a mall parking lot about a block away. You could scream around and see how many security guards you could get chasing you with their little yellow light blinking! lol.

Tod, I was thinking the same thing. two clutch jobs, and the drag in the mall parking lot! The kerkers at 4K would sound nice in the parking garage, and you can do the 4K in first gear from one end too the other.

Hot damn, road trip and burnout contest in the same weekend! I gotta order up a new back tire now.

Maybe if we are all real nice, we can get Wildcat to do the "craft services" thing.

Is there such a thing as a gift card from a bail bondsman?
