The end of a dream.

Well, my restore has hit a major road block. I have made a career change and the diference in pay will be too significant for me to finance the parts to continue any of the work on the bike. I had just gotten started on it too. I am too frustrated to mess around so I am gonna offer up the bike and new parts for one money.
1979 XS1100SF

Master Cylinders have been rebuilt this past fall
Have new parts ready for install:
Steering bearings
rear brake caliper kit
two (of 4) carb kits
Chrome & Foam Grips
New Windscreen and mounting hardware
New Battery

Used, but nice parts:
Harley Sportster Mufflers to replace stock muffs
Purchased Headlight, bucket, mounting ears/ Blinkers off of eBay to convert from Fairing set up. (No longer have the fairing.)

Located in SW Iowa. Bike ran strong before I pulled the carbs off, tho one carb leaked pretty badly.
Fuel lines will ned replaced.

Make me an offer, or I can part it out on eBay later.

just my 2 cents worth
but i was in the same situation a while ago
i bought my 11 when i was 19 and single living with my parents
got it brand new, ran it for a bunch of years, then got married, bought a house, etc etc, no time no money.
so i wrapped it in plastic and stuck it in the corner of the shed
repeat after me" it doesn't cost anything to keep it in the corner"
well time went by and 12 years later, i decided to drag it out into
the sunlight, originally i put it up because it needed exhaust and brakes rebuilt, well i set to fixing it up, carbs redone, brakes redone, exhaust from ebay, lots of scrubbing and cleaning all over, now four summers have gone by, and it runs great
I still have it, and i'm glad i never sold it, had plenty of chances to sell. but i was stubborn and held onto it. and glad i did

my advice, wrap everything up good and store it away, till a better time, you won't be sorry

I agree, If you have a corner, keep it. My dad got his 79F new from Japan. He rode well and parked it in 91 in our shed just before he went he went to Desert Storm. After raising my siblings and myself and working all of these years, it just sat in the shed. I dug it out from the shed and resparked his interest. He previously had never had the time to work on it to get it going untill I pulled it out. He had many offers to sell it, but he kept it all these years. Now we have 5 XS's. All the time people come up to me looking at these bikes. Almost everyone says that they had one back in the day. So if you have the space, keep it. You might regret it later. Just basically winterize it and wrap it up. Mercruiser makes this stuff in a can called storage seal. You basically spray it down the intake untill the engine quits. It coats everything with a coat of oil preventing rust. You migh disconnect the fuel lines from the carb and put a line running from petcock to petcock. With some stabilizer in your gas, you will prevent rust and varnish. Anyway, these are just some suggestions if you decide to keep it.
