  • Bloody Cars

Just got the XS nicely fitted up with R6 calipers and RaceTech damping polished legs and new hard chrome tubes and was on my way home from work in a line of traffic going about 40k/h and a car that was waiting to do a right hand turn (Australia) decided to go as I approached.
Tried to flick the 300 odd kilos of bike around the car but only got far enough to be tboned.
Bike is not too bad I have been told but I have a shattered hip and am now a bit heavier with a compression bolt and plate holding my right leg together and a 6 week recovery.
Wont be long I'll fix it all and be back on the road

    Get well soon

    6 week recovery?,
think I go bonkers being laid up that long, but better than not needing to recover.

There are people driving around that just can't/don't see bikes. Seems young gals driving around here can be the worst.

      Sorry to hear this

I know how you feel, having been in a wreck last year, requiring a five vertabrea fusion in my back, and being out of work for six months. The bike suffered a bent frame, among other problems. We are both back on the road, after a lengthy recovery period. Good luck, and get well soon.

          Dayam, Auxtian,

So sorry to hear that!! Sacrificing your hip for the bike, now that's Aussie TOUGH! Hope you heal fast!

BTW, had you been able to afix the S.O.F.A.?

Perhaps you will add some extra lights and a superloud horn during the rebuild process!!

            Crap auxtian....

I ordered a pick up coil assy. a while back... tiaro motorcycle wreckers I think... they were pretty nice. I can fish for their address if you need anything. They has some stuff online back then. Cant think of another XS stuff supplier from down under right now.

              DAMN CAGES

MAYBE WE ALL SHOULD GET LAWS PASSED LETTING US RUN FLASHING STROBES OR LEDS ON OUR BIKE FOR THOSE BLIND BATS. WHEN I'M IN MY CAGE ...BIKES ARE THE FIRST THING I SEE AND GIVE THEM THE RESPECT AND ROOM THEY NEED, EVEN THE RIGHT OF WAY. WE JUST DON'T HAVE A CHANCE DO WE...THATS WHY I RIDE IN THE COUNTY. CRAP ON CITY RIDING UNLESS I HAVE TOO.. THEN IT'S THUMB ON THE HORN. THEY OUGHT TO MAKE THE RECKERS OF US TAKE A BIKE COURSE TO SHOW THEM HOW IT IS!!!!YEAH RIGHT, THAT WILL HAPPEN

From what I can gleen from Auxtians description of what happened, I think they drive on the left side of the road, hence a right had turn by the cage as crossing traffic and his lane in front of him.

He was probably partially hidden by the cars in front of him, and the turning cage was only seeing the cars and wasn't expecting to see a bike behind the group!? Same kind of thing happens to Emergency response vehicles, people hear a siren and after the FIRST ER vehicle comes thru they don't necessarily look to see if there are others, but many times there are, and BAM, they pull out in front of the 2nd ER vehicle and cause a wreck, or at least, delay the response time of the ER vehicle!

I, too, have experienced a cage turning across my path, my body faired better than Auxtian, but not my bike, front forks, and later I found out, FRAME, but it still works great many years later!

Doing OK. Did a walk around the block today (400 metres) with crutchs then the PT's had me in the gym.....boy am I stuffed.
As to future riding I have the Isle of Man and the XS 30th anniversary in 2008 in Germany so I am taking my bike over with me and doing the Euro trip. They have to bury me to stop me riding

Sorry to hear that. Hope you recover soon. As for me, I ride to and from school and have had to swerve on several occasions to avoid being hit. You are all right about the female drivers. I have had to swerve into opposing lanes to avoid being hit by cars moving lanes into me. Sometimes they just don't look even when they are right beside you. I try not to ride beside them and just push on by. At intersections, I try to slow down before, look both ways, and then power through intersections.
