2nd annual Tahoe Rally anyone?

FYI: The Days Inn on 50 in SLT was moderately disgusting. Old, worn, run down, moldy, and sticky carpet...we checked out after one night.

This time I plan to actually ride my motorcycle up there, now that it works. I'm thinking of camping, but I'll peruse the motels first to see if something is available.

Okay, I have a room at the Motel 6 for $80. It was the Days Inn that was a hole, not the Best Western; I don't know about the Best Western. I'm only staying one night.
I need to take a MC-camping trip sometime...but not this time.

Since there isn't an actual "host" for this rally, and therefore no "camp," we need to have a location for people to be able to connect with the group. Someone who gets to Tahoe at 4:06pm might miss the group which is coming back from the Nevada side of the hill. Is there some way to set up waypoints, a place where, at 6:00pm, everyone will meet? A morning, 1:00pm, and a 6:00pm site should be enough. Someone who knows the area should just set up arbitrary locations. I thought of the cell phone connection, but I don't think someone who's negotiating a downhill lefthand hairpin with a 300' drop-off to the right should have to field a phone call...in any event, a list of cell numbers would be good. Don't mean to nag, but I sent all of you guys personel messages over a week ago with my contact info to facilitate communication. My hope was to see if I could hook up with someone to share a motel room: even if it means doing it hippy style by crashing on the floor in a sleeping bag. Like I said in an earlier post, my fortune has taken a turn for the worst and I won't know until the last minit if I'll be able to make it or not.

My suggestion is that we shoot for meeting at the Carrow's Resturant on hwy 50 near Stateline, (since this is where we met last year,) Sunday morning around 9 AM. There we can plan a day's ride, and go for a putt. Those of us who live south of there can plan a ride back on Monday.

Sounds like most respondents live in the Central Valley, or (like moi,) the Central Coast. Pat can't get off work untill 2:00, which is a bit late for riding to Tahoe, but "do"able. Seems to me that the simplest solution would be to decend on Uncle Spot to rendevous. We could use his hot tub, drink his beer, check out the women in his life, y'know all that biker stuff. Got a pool table, Unc? Anyway, if I'm going I could be in yer neck-of-the-woods by noon. (I got a bit part in a production of "Faulty Towers" that opens on Friday night befor the ride.)
I'll pay half of the Motel bill even if I crash on the floor!

Sorry LoHo, Got the Inn's a little mixed up. Days Inn, Best western, it all sounds the same doesn't it? We're planning to be at Carrows Sunday morning, thats me and Tim(my brother w/the midnight). Still waiting to see if Maximan's gonna be here or not.
But we'll be riding up from Reno. Hey Ed, you want me to ask if you can crash at my parents place? Sat. night I think they have a free room, but Sunday my uncles coming to visit. Let me know (775)544-7780.

Got a couple ideas for Sunday. I'll back you up, Ed. I'll be at Carrows a 9 whether you can make it or not. Either we can do Ebbetts pass on Hwy. 4 as last year, or cross from 50 over to Auburn on Icehouse Rd. which puts us either on 80, or 49 to 89 around west Lake Tahoe...... that could be a long day.

Sure Pat, Thats fine with me. I tend to think about doing rides that seldom get to do. I guess I forget that a lot of people don't get to ride the general courses. It's a beautiful ride around the lake, and can easily be done in a casual day.

I'm up for any rides, that was just a suggestion .
I used to do "the Markleeville Death Ride". Pedalled my bicycle from Markleeville, over Monitor pass, down the other side, turned around at the bottom and went bck over Monitor, up Carson pass, Luther pass, then after 120 miles pedalling Ebbetts pass. 152 miles with 15,000 feet of climbing (and subsequent decents ). Apparently they've made the course shorter but added more passes, too many people couldn't complete the whole thing. I did it in 9 hours (16 mph avg).
Re-riding that route would bring back fond memories.

I don't know about you but I'd rather do a "casual ride": LOTS of scenery, but no "balls-to-the-walls/blitz-ride" to the next 'checkpoint/rest area'. Pat, I'm an old fart with LOTS of "miles-on-the-odometer"

I have no doubt my XS11 can/could do it - but it's in much better shape than I am (but, "ROUND" ***is*** a "shape"...isn't it?)

I can't wait for this get-together/XS11 gathering - I'm gettin' itchy throttle hand
