that bike looks kosher to me.

The 1980 'G' model did use rotors without slots, it's part number 1J3-25831-00-00 and it's the same part on the XS1100 'E', 'F' and 'SF'.

The seat looks good to me, it's definately not an '80 special seat, not 'king & queen' enough.

Tank stripes look just like the ones on the Yamaha fiche.

There were two colours of 'G' model 'Diamond Silver' and 'New Ruby Red', this is the later.

And here's the photo of a very similar 'G' from the pictures section of this site !

She hated motorcycles and the men that road them and had way too much power under the law (that no one voted for.) Besides the 85mph Speedo, she was behind such projects as the $500 backwards-steering bike (with a full roll cage.) Fortunately Carter was a one termer and Claybrook was flushed with the rest of the Carter administration. One of the first things done by the new NHTSA administration (under Regan) was to dump the 85mph speedo.

I always thought that the rationale for the 55 mph nat'l. speed limit and the 85 mph speedo that came with it was to save fuel hence the popular monicker, EPA speedo. It wasn't just bikes, it was cars too. My '87 Chrysler 5th Ave. has one with the 55 limit highlighted. Didn't know it was a motorcycle hating, man hating bitch that did it. Learn something every day.
Shiny side up,
650 Mike

XS1100SF "Rusty", runs great, 96k miles
XS650SJ "The Black Bike", engine from XS650H with 750cc big bore kit, 30k miles

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in one pretty and well preserved piece, but to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, worn out and defiantly shouting, "WOW, what a ride !" - Sprung

It was aimed entirely at the motorcycle and performance car crowd but mostly at us bikers. Back then you'd almost never find an article about her and the NHTSA in car rags but in almost every month in the bike rags.

She went as far as banning HP ratings in motorcycle advertizing. For a while motorcycle companies refused to state horsepower for fear of her wrath. Now they're all back to overstating power like before... ;o)

I'd like to have seen her face when the first modern sport bike hit the market. I'm sure she was so pist that she could have chewed titanium...

Actually, shes done a full 180 degree turnaround, saw her interviewed on some show on speed channel, and she admitted that they were a bit overzelous back then.

Don't remember what she's doing now though.

She's probably looking for work in the privet sector and is softening her position so as not to look like as much of a radical. I don't trust her any further than I can toss her and these days it's not that far.

Back on subject, I'd still rather have a XJR1300 if it's the same money as a new XS11. My old XS11 runs great and if I had a new one, it wouldn't stay that way... Unlike women, bikes don't get jealous if you take out another...
