It sure is pretty but for what it would cost to get it back to the USA, I'd rather bring over an XJR1300. I think of it as the younger brother of the XS11.

Because DK Motorcycles is the largest dealer/importer in the country no-one knows motorcycles like we do
You'd think they might know difference between chain/shaft drive bikes.

      Sure is pretty tho

Is that a USA speedo, or do they use MPH over there? Are those the right colors for 1980?
        Yes nice looking.

This is the second "New" one I have heard about on here recently. It makes me wonder if a meticulous guy could do a frame-up restoration on one of these, put a new speedo on it and pawn it off for "New"?? This probably isn't the case here, but it would make me be very cautious if i was interested in one.

Unless it was sitting in a controlled room with little to no humidity, how do you keep the cylinders with the valves open from rusting up over 26+ years? On the other hand, could you imagine riding that thing out of the showroom... shining in the sun... on 26 year old rubber!?!? lol. Something like this is definately trailered to a collectors showroom, not ridden.

Ground up or just REALLY well kept

If you have seen some members' bikes, they could be in showroom photos. A couple thta come to mind are mastan, who keeps his pretty shiny, and Bohn F has a couple of centerfold-worthy models.

It also says it has clip ons which it doesn't. That is a USA model with the silly 85 mph "EPA" speedo. Nice bike...Those look like OEM tires, buyer better change them out if it is actually to be ridden.

Looks like an impostor. It's got an '81 speedo, '79 stripe scheme on the tank, 80 Special seat, '79 special grab bar and Special horns.

IIRC, the kick starter was deleted in '81?

I'd be surprised if the numbers matched, in fact I'm going to ask!

It doesn't have a kicker shaft, just a rubber plug.

The EPA wasn't responsible for the 85 MPH speedo; it was the NHTSA. The worst president (Jimma Carter) ever appointed a "crazy woman" to head the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. He name was Joan Claybrook but most of us refer to her as claymore like the land mine used in the Viet Nam war.

She hated motorcycles and the men that road them and had way too much power under the law (that no one voted for.) Besides the 85mph Speedo, she was behind such projects as the $500 backwards-steering bike (with a full roll cage.) Fortunately Carter was a one termer and Claybrook was flushed with the rest of the Carter administration. One of the first things done by the new NHTSA administration (under Regan) was to dump the 85mph speedo.

                            MNS...yes, Special...?

                            Standard...no
                            --------------

My 80G has only the "55" in red on it's 85 MPH speedo.
Seat same as in pic, and have seen that grab rail on em too.

All 750 and larger Yamahas had slotted rotors in 1980. I'm not sure about the smaller bikes but it was a big deal on the triples and XS11.
