    Came across these engines in the Chicago area.

    That is an xj engine but that is definitely not a xs engine

      That XJ engine is an 1100, not a 750 and it looks like someone changed the jugs and put XS jugs on it. I don't see the YICS ports. The 10M on the serial # is an XJ1100.

      Nate is right about the "XS" Engine. It's NOT an XS. Looks a little bit like an FJ engine. The carbs on it are most definitely 80 or later.

        I believe you're right, Greg.

        That looks like a Maxim 650 engine, part of Yamaha's XJ line.

        And it debuted here in 1980 ...

          Yep, I would bet a 1980 XJ650G. The valve cover matches and it was just before YICS was added to the 650. You can see the stator assembly tucked under the carbs.
