It looks like it's most likely for the '79 Special.

Actually, that carrier rack and slide-in backrest(missin' the back pad) originally came off an 81Venturer. Venturers came from factory with THAT backrest as part of the package.

Seat is for 79Special, and was offered through Yamaha Accessories at that time.

If you look closely at the rear of the seat you'll see that it has the space there for the 80 - 81 Special tail light. It's probably off of an LG or an LH.

I have a seat just like it on my SG.

The drivers seat looks a bit squished down ?

              Greg,
I gave it a good look. I'm not sure I see the open back. You have one, so I defer to.you. If it's.an SG seat, the rack is for something else.

The other hint is the point at the bottom edge. That's indicative of an 80 - 81 Special pan.

See how the lower edge of the pan is pretty much straight on the 79 seat?

Now look at the point sticking down on this LH seat between the upper shock mount and the side cover.

The one on the craigslist seat has that point. You can put a 79 seat on an 80 but if you try to put an 80 - 81 seat on a 79 the side covers won't fit.

I could be wrong but I think it's the later seat.
