you may want to take pics of the bottom, sides, and rear of the seat.
that way someone could positively identify it for you.
and make a better decision whether they want to buy it based on what the rest of the seat looks like.
also, it may not be safe as a passenger backrest without the sissy bar.

+1 on that as I had one on my 79SF but as BA80 says they may be different. I like it a lot and may possibly have use for it on one of my bikes.

I know Dean's bike. If that seat came off of it, it only fits an 80 or 81 Special. It lines up with the aluminum grab rail and the slanted side covers. It is open at the back for the underseat taillight. I may bolt to the SF, but it won't look right.

totally agree. with the side profile it sure looks like an 80-81 special seat.
and if Dean says it came off an 80 special and is in great shape then i would believe that. I just figured with more pictures he would sell it easier, because it looks like a pretty awesome seat.

Verified. SG, SH, LG, and LH. That's a beautiful seat, if you like them. In 1983, I made up my mind to buy a new XS650 Special. The dealer in Daytona Beach had put one of those seats on the only 650 Special in stock. They would not swap it out and they were looking for a premium price. Since I didn't wand that seat, I had to buy my bike elsewhere.

that seat doesnt fit an xs650, I know you didnt mean that, but some people might think so,

it is missing one side of the bolt down and it looks like the pan is buckled, unless it is just a shadow or something.

That's right. Those seats were made for all of the Specials. A specific seat was made for each of them. Dean's is particularly nice and fits bikes made for two years.

                          Still available.

Pan is perfect and I have the other mounting bracket somewhere, I think. Will be looking today.

May be none of my business but that seat was sold by Yamaha. I used to have one before my Dobermans decided to make a meal of it. Anyway to the point I am trying to make. That particular seat needs to have that sissy bar you have on your bike accompany it. It has no stable support built into the seat. There are some aftermarket ones that were sold that have a very good support system built into them. What I am saying here is you might be able to sell it if you offer the sissy bar too. Like I said may be none of my business but is there some reason you are hanging on to the sissy bar? I have one just like it that I had gold plated back in 80 when I bought my MNS.
