Hi,
I think you will find that you need to contact a dealer or aftermarket supplier to get brand new shims. Ive never heard anyone complain about using used shims if you can find them in the sizes you need. ymmvBikes Now.

Interesting. My Clymer shop manual says to never reuse a pad since they do wear and their thickness is no longer accurate.
If anyone has 2.50, 2.55, 2.60 or a 2.65, please let me know.Comment

I have checked thickness on a lot of used shims and the ones I have checked are either spot on the original thickness or thicker. So it does pay to check the thickness but used is not a problem.Originally posted by FormerGlory View PostNathan

I would think that after you put the new/used/replacement shims in, that you'd check your clearences again. If the replacement shim is too big or too small, you'd know then. Even then, how bad can it be if it's off by a little? That's why they have a spread in the spec. As long as it's in spec, then use it.Hi, my name is George & I'm a twisty addict!

RTV is perfect for that and almost ALL other gasket surfaces on the bike. There are only 3 places that require real gaskets - the float bowls, head gasket, and exhaust gaskets. The fuel door gasket too if that counts. The entire engine can otherwise be put together with RTV without issue, and it actually works BETTER than a real gasket in many ways.Originally posted by ddragon63 View Post1980 XS850SG - Sold
