The list needs some work. There is no such thing as an XS1100L or XS1100S, and assuming the turn signals listed are the whole stems, the Specials and the Midnight Specials don't use the same part number (the MNS's are black). None of the models have "Left Rear" brake pads, and the way the carb kits are listed is rather confusing since the SG, LG, SH, and LH ('80-'81 Specials & Midnight Specials) all use the same carb kits. I also don't see why the petcock rebuild kits are different prices (one cent off) for the Specials vs. MNS's, especially since the part numbers are the same.
    1980 XS850SG - Sold
    1981 XS1100LH Midnight Special (Sold) - purchased 9/29/08
Fully Vetterized and Dynojet Kit added, Heated Grips, Truck-Lite LED headlight, Accel Coils, Irridium plugs, TKAT Fork Brace, XS850LH Final Drive & Black SS Brake lines from Chacal.
Here's my web page devoted to my bike! XS/XJ User's Manuals there, and the XJ1100 Service Manual and both XS1100 Service manuals (free download!).

Maybe some typo's involved, getting into retro parts is new to him, I'm forwarding your message to him, your input will be invaluable to him, you and the club, he really wants to be able to help, he's not just another business guy, he loves bikes and everything associated with it. Will get back with you.

How do you decipher a "5K7 vin ? I show(could be wrong) 81 XS1100S and I think sometimes manufacturers mistakenly drop off the F sometimes
I'm also guessing the "L" is short for "LH" But I agree, should be more accurate, I emailed him with the feedback, keep any mis-info corrections coming

I agree a lot of people drop of the E, F, G, and H and just put S for special and L for midnight special and nothing for the standard model.

Working on the fix, he wrote me back after I gave him your comments
{quote} Well some of these comments I will have to contact my supplier cause that is the part and descriptions they supply for the bike.
And as go for the petcock rebuild kits, I just looked at that and that’s an excel error I didn’t notice. It’s $31.00 for those 3 rebuild kits, I didn’t notice that till now.
            {end quote}
and he also replies--What are some parts that these bikes need that are hard to find. I mean I know carb kits and rebuild kits, there pretty standard for like tune up’s and things.

Are there are parts that are hard to find that people with these bikes need that I could look for?

Bug, I think he just listed the first letter of the model because it's multi year, so the L would be LG or LH, and the S the SG or SH so the way it's listed makes sense to me, and I'm pretty sure I've seen it listed like that other places as well when specials or MNS's are listed multi year.

He's placing an order this week, so any orders let him or me know, again, anything else anyone needs let one of us know, any time he's not placing an order and some of you need parts, as long as enough of you order a total of at $100 together, he can special order right away. Something to keep in mind when something breaks right before a trip or event. But any other wish list items, add them here.

Are those carb kits priced per carb or per bike?

I just picked up a '79 SF last Friday that's been parked for 5 years....I'll be going through a lot of her bits, including brakes and carbs. :-)
My Special is as old as I am.

I haven't heard from him in a while, I don't know if he's having trouble with the site, or his real job keeping him from seting up his site. I know he said he ordered a bunch of XS stuff, but don't know if he got it in or not. As far as carb rebuilding, unless your parts are damaged, almost always clean and reuse, unless your making mods and need to change jets or have a bad float, I just recently bought the exact bike and doing the same thing, carbs/all brake rebuilds/fork seals/fuse block mod, tank clean/petcock rebuild, going to try and make my own custom fork brace from aluminum stock. Hoping to be ready to ride by spring, money and warmth the only thing in my way...lol
Did you get it for a good price?

Quick question oldskool, why are the sintered brake pads cheaper than the organic?

I've found that to be true pretty much everywhere. Not sure why other than it must be cheaper to make them than the organic ones. Not sure if it's the materials are cheaper or that the process to make them costs less? The sintered/semi-metallic work fine and last fine for me, and our disks are hard enough to stand up to them so I'm fine with saving the money by getting the sintered pads. And I can put up with the fact that they are a little more noisy than the organic ones as well for the fact that I can generally find them for about 1/2 the price I can find organic pads for.

Cy, do they stop that much better, the sintered? I've never used them.
