This tells us that either there is a version of the pacifico fairing that is setup for the vetter bracket, or a modified vetter bracket setup for the pacifico. I'm guessing the former, since with how fast the vetter version was ready, it had to have already have been in the works before the factory fire, and I'm sure they didn't want to deal with two different mounts since I'm guessing they had planned to have two optional fairings available and with vetter already having a mount available for the 11 that probably only required moving the mounting holes for the yamaha branded pacifico fairing it would likely have made sense to have gone that route.

No clearance issues, no vibration issues, etc. You sure can put a lot of stuff in that fairing.

Glad to see the discussion on this, because no two people in a row have told me it's a Vetter, or Pacifico.

      Thanx - doo-daa
My 78 has the same set-up as well. To the best of my limited knowledge mine is a Vetter.

If the it looks like the one in the pictures it's not a Vetter, they use the same windshield as the Windjammers, and cannot take a radio internally in the fairing but require an external radio pod for the radio and speakers (this is the easiest way to tell the difference really, the pacifico has an area for radio and speakers and larger side pockets and flat straight bottom section on the windshield and the vetter had a curved dash without an area for radio or speakers and the bottom of the windshield is curved).

Also, the vetter has the forward peak/point just inside the area of the headlight where the pacifico has the peak/point above the headlight. I'm also pretty sure that the vetter didn't exist (the yamaha version that is) until at least the 79 model run) which is why you only see pacificos or true vetter branded vetter fairings on the earlier bikes (I'm not sure if you even see the vetters on the 79's either, cause I thought they were first built in 80? but I'm not sure)

Just re-read the email from Craig Vetter, and the Vetter Yamaha branded fairings were made for the 1980 and 81 model years, with the design modifications made by Charly Perethian now of Parabellum ltd who still designs and builds fairings. This all happened after Craig sold the company in 78.

BTW, you might notice, I'm a bit of a Vetter nerd.

I stand corrected. Mine does look just like the one pictured and like your description. Where may I find a replacement windshield?

                  Hey bg241

With all due respect to the fairing gurus, I have the same, identical fairing as pictured by bg241 in my 79F. Don't know if it is a Pacifico or Vetter or what makes them different. Bought the bike with fairing installed in April of 83 with 7,000 miles. It is the same indigo blue color and has the Yamaha ID# plate, radio and speakers. The mounting bracket is definitely not the same, as mine is more of an H shape. I will try and post some pictures of mine.

Anything made for the 79's wasn't a Vetter as the Vetter made under the Yamaha brand didn't exist till the 80 model year, this is direct from Craig Vetter and the guy who did the design work to incorporate the XS11 Headlight and turn signals into the Windjammer fairing which is what the Vetter fairing under the Yamaha brand was, just a modified Windjammer IV, using the same windshield and lowers as all the windjammers prior to the windjammer V.

So is your bracket a two piece bracket or a single piece? Many of the original 78 Pacifico brackets were two piece rather than a one piece like the Vetter bracket or the one pictured in this thread.

Yep, Mr. Figman, the one in your picture sure looks exactly like the one I have for sale.

This has sure been a lively discussion and I think it looks like there are a lot of faring mysteries out there that are at least as murky as any Egyptologist may encounter while looking for a lost tomb

Maybe mine is a missing link or something. I probably should be asking at least four figures for it

It's probably the nicest specimen that's been seen in a good few years that's for sure. Of course, that being nice like that is unfortunately of use only to someone trying to to a factory restore on a 79F, cause it's the wrong color for anything else. And as perfect as that original paint job is, nobody is going to want to mess with it for any other model year (of course, if they have a 79 that's been repainted that they want to restore, it would give the perfect source to get a paint match from )

I just realized on figman's pic

That the fairing uses the standard signal lenses rotated upright - very clever.
