I have a 1980 XS 1100 Special with tons of new parts. The engine has low compression and leaks oil and has no 1st gear. Everything else on the bike is great. The carbs were just serviced by a mechanic and are good to go. If there is something you need let me know. I can get you pictures if you want them. Email me at flyingtaz@gmail.com

You don't need to split the case on the XS1100 to fix the transmission. Low compression MAY be fixed by riding it, as most of the time if the bike has been sitting for more than a year the compression drops, but comes back up once you use it again.
If it was closer, and I had a real job earning real money, I'd be up to get it!
Good luck, and I hope you CAN sell it soon, as it seems you are at that point with the project, and I DO know how that is!Ray Matteis

If turns out the compression is good then fix the leaking carburetors and ride that Special!

Maybe a better understanding of the real issue with the flooding carbs and checking the compression with a compression gage would convince you its still worth the fight? Heres some insight...

I have to say if you were in my neck of the woods I certainly would not be trying to talk you into working on that bike....I would be coming to get it at a hundred miles an hour. I know what it is like to need room or be tired of a project, but the guys on this forum are sooooooo good with help that it is uncanny. If you have the slightest interest in bringing it back from the dead, well this is THE place. If you sell it, or far worse part it, you WILL one day regret it. I can't help but think you are making a mistake. For every problem you mentioned there is a thread here with the help to fix the problem.
Give it some serious thought.RIP Whiskers (Shop Boss) 25+yrs

"The carbs were just completely rebuilt", he's certain that not the issus LOL. If we had a dollar every time we heard that we'ed be rolling in green. Dude, low compression has nothing to do with gas draining out the back of the carbs! Take a min and read the link I sent you and you will realize what your dealing with. Im not trying to convince you to fix it, I guess Im trying to help you understand how easy it could be! Thats alright, sell it whole we'll have a new member here saying "Check this out, man that PO didnt know sh*t, what a steel I got". Just think, you'll make someones day!'79 XS11 F
