    Parting out a 1980 XS1100 Special

I have a 1980 XS 1100 Special with tons of new parts. The engine has low compression and leaks oil and has no 1st gear. Everything else on the bike is great. The carbs were just serviced by a mechanic and are good to go. If there is something you need let me know. I can get you pictures if you want them. Email me at flyingtaz@gmail.com

Why not just fix it and sell it as a complete bike?
    1980 XS850SG - Sold
    1981 XS1100LH Midnight Special (Sold) - purchased 9/29/08
Fully Vetterized and Dynojet Kit added, Heated Grips, Truck-Lite LED headlight, Accel Coils, Irridium plugs, TKAT Fork Brace, XS850LH Final Drive & Black SS Brake lines from Chacal.
Here's my web page devoted to my bike! XS/XJ User's Manuals there, and the XJ1100 Service Manual and both XS1100 Service manuals (free download!).

Lots of reasons not the least of which is the cost, and I don't have a case splitter, the time and most of all I want this POS out of my garage. If someone else wants it they can have it all for $300

You don't need to split the case on the XS1100 to fix the transmission. Low compression MAY be fixed by riding it, as most of the time if the bike has been sitting for more than a year the compression drops, but comes back up once you use it again.
If it was closer, and I had a real job earning real money, I'd be up to get it!
Good luck, and I hope you CAN sell it soon, as it seems you are at that point with the project, and I DO know how that is!

I wish that riding it would help but at this point I don't think it is safe to ride. The compression is so low that fuel comes out of the carbs because the engine can't burn it all.

Taz, that's leaking carburetors not low compression. Before you throw in the towel have you checked the engine compression with a compression gauge?

If turns out the compression is good then fix the leaking carburetors and ride that Special!

Maybe a better understanding of the real issue with the flooding carbs and checking the compression with a compression gage would convince you its still worth the fight? Heres some insight...

i know it's bad compression I had it checked and the best gets 65 and the worst is 50. The carbs were just completely rebuilt so I know they are not the issue.

I have to say if you were in my neck of the woods I certainly would not be trying to talk you into working on that bike....I would be coming to get it at a hundred miles an hour. I know what it is like to need room or be tired of a project, but the guys on this forum are sooooooo good with help that it is uncanny. If you have the slightest interest in bringing it back from the dead, well this is THE place. If you sell it, or far worse part it, you WILL one day regret it. Anyways just my 2 cents worth

So do you still have the exhaust? If so is it stock? 4 to 2? or 4 to 1? Is so can you send me some pics and a price.

Do you know for sure if these would fit on an 1983 xj1100

                      Thanks...

If your still parting it out....

I could really use a left pickup coil side cover. Do you have a pick of the bike? anyway how much you want for a left engine side pickup coil cover?

Oh Yea... Where youout of? I might buy the whole thing from you.

I can't help but think you are making a mistake. For every problem you mentioned there is a thread here with the help to fix the problem.

                            Give it some serious thought.

"The carbs were just completely rebuilt", he's certain that not the issus LOL. If we had a dollar every time we heard that we'ed be rolling in green. Dude, low compression has nothing to do with gas draining out the back of the carbs! Take a min and read the link I sent you and you will realize what your dealing with. Im not trying to convince you to fix it, I guess Im trying to help you understand how easy it could be! Thats alright, sell it whole we'll have a new member here saying "Check this out, man that PO didnt know sh*t, what a steel I got". Just think, you'll make someones day!
