Hi all, I'm new to the forums. I have a 79XS Special and I am looking for some 80-81 carbs. I already have the Dynojet kit for them and some 80-81 carbs but I doscovered too late that my number 3 carb has a broken float arm. They don't need to be pretty as all I really need is the #3 body to make my set functional. I also have the original 3H3's that came with the bike. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mike

Yes they are
Yes they are 79 XS special carbs. They could probably use new float needles, they will overflow if I don't shut off my petcocks. Trade would work for me, just say the word. I used to do all the head and machine work for Lee's Performance in Charlotte. I will be porting a spare head I have and posting pics very soon if you are interested. I also have one of xschops chain drive units to install. Let me know. Sincerely, Mike79 XS1100 "Velvet Hammer"

Carbs clean but need float needles
My 79 carbs don't overflow as long as I turn off my auxilliary lawnmower petcocks. The bike starts right up with only a little choke time and seems to run well however they occasionally make the bike run like it has one cylinder a little too rich. I think its the float needles. As far as how they look, I could send a pic or 2. They look like 30 year old carbs to me, certainly not show worthy, but functional with a little fiddling. I see from your signature you have a 78 with FJ1100 carbs. I was thinking about doing that with my 1180 kit. How does that setup work and do you still have the airbox? I ditched mine as soon as I could. I too am wanting to build a Beast. Hope this answered your questions.79 XS1100 "Velvet Hammer"

fj carbs
They are awesome, only mods are a fuel rail setup because the DJ carbs have only one 5/16 inlet and also a handlebar mounted choke lever, I run 120 main jets and 42.5 pilots with pod filters and a free flowing exhaust91 kwaka kz1000p

No broken or stripped parts
The carbs I have for trade are on my XS right now. There are no broken parts or stripped brass, just tired float valves. Yeah, I saw that you had a Bassani. Sweet exhaust and a rare find. I made a straight thru baffle for my MAC 4-1 with a 2 inch Thrush glass pack. I basically cut off the outer shell and used one of the ends as my reverse megaphone and slid it back into the pipe and riveted it in place. We have winter here in the mountains of western nc and I haven't had a chance to ride it yet but it sounds awesome. Reminds me of the Kerker megaphone on my old KZ650, it really booms compared to the piece of crap soup can baffle that MAC puts in it. Anyway, thanks for the info on the FJ carbs, it's got me really excited about the possibilities on a Big motor. MikeLast edited by mrbisbob; 03-06-2010, 06:46 PM.79 XS1100 "Velvet Hammer"

So, you want to trade or not?
You still interested in trading or have you decided not to. I would appreciate an answer either way. Thanks79 XS1100 "Velvet Hammer"
