A real beauty. Makes me sick when I think that I sold my 79F 4 years ago and it also had 7800 miles on it. Crap. Oh well, have a sweet one with 28,000 on it now.

Many moons ago I bought a 78E brand new from my home town dealer. I went to get one and the dealer was riding a brand new one as a demo. When I told him that I was there to buy one, he said "this is the only one we are going to get this year". I thought for a second and said - you need to get off of my bike. He did and I took it home.

I see in the buying feedback this guy seems to have purchased the bike 10/20/10 from Indianrider2000.

Wonder what he paid, because the current price seem high to me.

With my dealer only getting one in 1978, I am curious as to how many 1978Es were produced.

Agreed on the high price Ben. I am also liking that a lot.

I wonder how many E's, F's, Specials, etc. from each year are still around. My thinking is they are all fairly rare. I want a S'79 Special, I like the seat and line it strikes the best. There are 2 downstate for one price--41,750. I have other obligations $$wise right now, but what a deal.

Personally the lines on the XJ were the best looking of all the XS derived machines...I really miss mine...

Agreed on the '79 Special ...

Styling is such a subjective thing, but, of all the "factory custom" versions (read: Special and Maxim) of the Eleven that Yamaha produced

for the U.S. market, I think the '79 Special has the best overall look. JMHO ... YMMV

07,550.0 These speedo's only go to 99,999.9 so it is probably 107,550.0 you can still have a good looking bike with lots of miles here in Ontario Canada I don't know about elsewhere when you buy your yearly sticker you have to put down the km(MI) then you can get the history and tell just how many there really are.Mine is at 185,000 km so showing 85,000 an putting a drill on the speedo cable I can put it to what ever I want.

If it's a Special you want, I would expect you're in luck. Remembering that time, most of the bikes were Specials. I may have read somewhere that in 1979, less than 10% of XS650's sold in the US were standards. Yamaha lit the fire in 1978 with the XS650 and XS750 Specials. Even today, I think most of the survivors are Specials When you get ready to buy an XS1100SF, you'll find it.

I like this one. I wonder what became of it?
