I can't grasp the shortened hacked rear on these bikes!
It just doesn't look right, maybe if the front end was lowered too?
probably not.
Some peoples idea of" fun to ride" may be being frightened by the ill handling?
Not my style...Then there is the price of this thing,
but what do I know?

For what it's worth, I think this is one of the better bobbers I've ever seen! Still just don't know what people really see in that style. It's like they take every great advancement that has been made with a bike and turn the clock back 40 years... Strange concept. Different strokes, I suppose. I'd love to know if the people that build these actually get the money they ask for them.
I don't know why everyone always hates on these bikes. I think this is definitely one of the better ones that have been done by far. Good paint and it looks like the yamaha bolt:
I'd be a buyer for something like this at around $2k. Unfortunately, he probably has WAAAYYY more into it than that. Good looking bike, IMO. If you were going to do a maxim bobber, this is how you'd do it.
78 E - 2to1 exhaust, dynatek coils, special headlight [SOLD!]
79 F - gas tank refurb, headgasket change, straight pipes, late model carbs, virago lowering shocks, special headlight and gauges, TC fuse block, GSXR-1100 carbs (WIP)

Its not that they're hated per se...its just the hacking of a perfectly good frame and wasting a bike for some silly notion of what they think a boober should be...not only that,,,but others should share his vision and buy it at the price he has listed...yeah right...
Now this bike I'd buy...but the hacked up XJ? Fugheddaboudit...

I took this bad boy for a test drive this past fall at the local dealer. Good bike, reminds me of riding a Harley 48. They have some sweet specials on customizations for it if you pay an extra $800 for the R-Spec (which is definitely worth the extra money for the better paint + rear suspension that doesn't bottom out). Could do for an exhaust upgrade (too quiet for the look), fuel injected, 942cc (has a little bit of get up and go), suspension is a bit low (i scraped a peg on the dealer bike ).
Not too badly priced, either, especially with the veteran discount they have at my yammy dealer. I am about 80% sure it'll be my first bike purchase after I finish my degree and move to austin.

agree that exhaust looks lame...cant vouch for the sound cause I've never heard one ...I like v-twins...they have their place and the japanese clones have better reliabilty...
having cut that XJ frame and making it a hardtail...just cant imagine riding without any shock absorbtion...one time at a rally in VT...my XJ's rear shocks had no air in them and every hard bump sent a shock up my spine...once i figured it out and put air into the shocks then it was smooth sailing the rest of the way...but not before a couple really good jolts...about as close to a hardtail as i'd want to get...

Agreed on all points ... this bike just looks wrong - and at $3,499.00 OBO ... No
As to the Star Bolt ... now this is more like it - checked out an "R-Spec" version at the local dealership last month ... Nice
If I was in the market for the "bobber" style, I'd definitely consider the Bolt - sharp-looking IMO ...
I know that to some the motorcycle is an artistic statement, that is their purpose in Hak, torturing and slaying their bikes (Pun intended Hak, not as an insult). As an engineer, form FOLLOWS function it does not limit or define function.
If your function is first and for most a looker and then as a side note you can ride it now and then......to the corner store and back.......maybe. Then yeah, I get hardtailing and putting those seats on that are a piece of steel with some leather over it. And mounting it with the same springs that were under my Schwinn seat when I was 12 and 100 or so lbs lighter and it still caused a game of billiards on those rougher roads, starts to make sense maybe.
I have learned over the past 40 some years of walking this earth that what I find attractive and useful is not the same as every one else around me, or on here. So I apply my rule of good and bad. Nothing is inherently good or bad, only the judgment of the person makes it good or bad. However, you will never see me give that kind of money for a bike with those type of modifications, as it would be of no real use to me.

Well put!! I agree wholly. Bobber's aren't my cup of tea but I can definitely appreciate when one is done well. I think this bike looks pretty damn cool but like everyone has agreed upon, nobody wants to be riding it on anything less than a freshly paved race track lol I can definitely see why people buy these to modify them, it's what drew me into this bike. Plenty of power, decent components, and more than anything the cheap price tag! For half the price tag or less of the bolt, you have a completely refreshed custom bike! I know at times it can be a tough pill to swallow, I see it all the time with cars once the price tag drops how kids decide to butcher the platforms.. But afterall, it is theirs to butcher! haha
Oh, Hey, I got this dirtbag style Ferrari for sale. Took out the four wheel independent suspension and replaced it with leaf springs. No shocks. Removed the fenders for that rat rod look, I detuned the engine by using illegal straight pipes and replaced the racing seats with bench seats from a Buick. Fun to drive. Flat black with orange peel and runs. Too much to list. One of a kind $500,000

Showa rear shocks, ACCT, Jardine 4-2 spaghetti pipes.
1979 XS1100F Canadian, stock exhaust. Top end rebuild in progress.
HAHAHA!!! I just died reading that.. But to be honest this scenario is nothing like starting with a Ferrari lol This entire bike was built for less than the cost of any used harley.. Far less than most of them, and equally capable with more power!
