I've got a same year special in pretty much the same condition and mileage. Co-incidentally it had a similar thing going on with the seat. There is a "U" section bit of rubber/plastic that fits onto the bottom edge of the seat pan. This is prone to becoming dislodged and works its way upwards making the side of the seat look lumpy. You just have to carefully remove the seat cover and refit the U section strip of plastic. A bit of contact adhesive would probably be the go as well.

The rest of that bike is very clean.

Add it up !
I just finished restoring a little 1970 Yamaha HS1 90cc twin. Not including my labor, I have nearly 4 grand into it. It sure is a show bike now. Add up what we put in our beloved xs's over time and the 5 grand asking price is a bargain for a bike that is not a jumble of stuff but a true survivin, rip snortin, ass kickin rocket. P.S I have nothing to do with the XS on ebay.

Totally agree, but to add to my previous post (see post #12) and to clarify,
in an auction like the one that is the subject of this thread, Ebay doesn't even
consider the bidding to have started until the reserve has been met, because
until that happens, neither party is obligated to buy/sell the vehicle. And we now know
that the reserve was $4,899.00, but we still don't know how much the current high
bidder actually bid, we just know that he bid at least $4,899.00 ...Marco

That is actually only a guess. We know the Reserve was higher than the previous posted bid of $2725, and less than the current bid of $4,899.The bid did not go up to $4,899 to meet the reserve, it went there to exceed the previous bidders maximum bid.

For example, let's say I'm interested in a vehicle on Ebay. It shows a Buy-It-Now price of $8,000.00,
and the reserve is $4,000.00 (which I have no way of knowing as a bidder). Let's also say that the current
high bid shows as $3,000.00. The listing will show that the reserve has not been met, and the Buy-It-Now
price will still show. If I then place a bid of $5,000.00, I immediately become the high bidder and the
Buy-It-Now option disappears. However, the current high bid does not jump from $3,000.00
to $5,000.00, but from $3,000.00 to $4,000.00, which is the reserve price. If others continue to bid
incrementally, Ebay will automatically outbid them for me until someone bids more than my $5,000.00 bid.
At least that's my understanding of Ebay policies. Please tell me if I'm wrong.Last edited by Prisoner6; 12-30-2013, 08:12 PM.Marco

Hey Marco,
I can see that now. Basically your saying if I set my max bid over the Reserve, Ebay automatically raises my bid to the Reserve instead just enough to exceed the high bid. Thus eliminating the BIN price. I guess I do not do enough on Ebay to have thought it through to that much detail.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

I'm kind of a detail-oriented guy, and sometimes I get a little too wordy when trying to explain
something (more than sometimes, if you ask my girlfriend!)Can't wait to see what this one sells for ...
By the way, I'm really enjoying your current build - you and some of the other guys here are just
amazing in the way you can take a battered, broken-down bike and restore it to it's former glory!
Guess I should have posted that last bit in the other forum ...Marco

Glad to see it sell for nearly $5k...
condition and originality are what command a higher than average price...most of our bikes look about half as good thus about half the value of what the market will bear...1980 XS650G Special-Two
