  • Venturer in Monticello, Wisconsin - $875 OBO

    Not mine.

    http://madison.craigslist.org/mcy/3324632066.html

1979 Yamaha XS1100 for sale or trade. I drive this daily. Will need a new back tire very soon. 34,000 miles. Hard Side bags. Runs good. Front brake is stuck open and should be taken apart and lubed. I may get to it. When this bike was sold to me it came as a 1982 XS1100 on the title. When insuring VIN numbers show 1979? I have not looked into it. Small tear in seat. Dings scratches and dirty. Not a show bike. $875.00 OBO or trade. Stiff knees so I think this is my last year that I want to ride. Thanks,

Yes Venturer was only made for 81. At a glance this looks the same as a Venturer. Closer examination shows the Standard tank rather than the extra large which originally had white sides and different saddle.
17" Rear wheel and ignition has differences too but you can not see that in the picture

Driver's footpegs are the '78-'79 type, but they may have been changed.

There isn't an oil cooler which could've been removed.

The pics aren't clear enough to see if the engine has the kick start shaft or the plug.

                The disc rotors aren't slotted.

                Speedo is pre '80 also.

These facts lean more toward a '79 Standard full dress.
1980 XS1100G "Dolly G" Full Dresser (with a coat of many colors )
                1979 XS1100SF (stock-euro mods planned)
                1984 XV700L Virago (to be hot-modded)
                1983 XJ750MK Midnight Maxim (semi-restored DD)
                1977 XS650D ( patiently awaiting resto)

Sometimes it takes a whole tank of gas before you can think straight.

It looks like it has passenger floor boards instead of pegs. What's the deal with those?

The way that the bag cage pinches together in the back always freaks me out and makes me think it has been dropped. From a design perspective, I think my mind would be a little more comfortable if both bars just went straight across.

It is bent like that to clear the fender.

At $875 asking price, aside from the title issue, if it runs would be a reasonable purchase if one wanted a bagger.

Floor boards are better for the pillion rider with those bags.... If you buy it and don't like the floor boards i am interested

Actually will bolt on either way...........and the tank IS colored/striped correctly for 79F. Fairing/trunks off a Venturer.

That's true, but you can't flip the fender up with the straight bar on top.

That's true, but only reason to flip fender up is removal of rear wheel. Since usually done on centerstand, wheel won't come out unless that is removed anyway..........touche.....
