I got the HP number from the Clymers I got with the bike. Won't swear it's accurate. The PO had swapped out the front end, which may explain the rotors.
I know ther eis always the debate over the HP for each year as Momma Yammie got forced to detune for sake of emmisisons. But what was the drop? Anything the average every day rider is going to notice? did it go from 95 down to 91 or did it go from 95 down to 80? My bet is closer to 95 down to 91 or better.

My bet is neither........horsrepower and torque were just moved to max at a lower RPM with the valvetrain changes, which also better met emission standards.

I cant account accurately each year's hp but by the time you get to the '82 XJ1100 maxim...you're down to 72 or 74 horses...so thats a signifigant detuning over the 78 model...my XJ was slighty modified...pod filters...kerker exhaust...rejetted carbs and YICS eliminator tool permanently blocking off the YICS ports..resulting in a slight gain in HP...how much I dont know as I never had a before and after dyno test...regardless of actual #s though I never thought for a moment that the bike was slow or suffered from the detuning compared to the '78 specs...

Those kinda numbers would be at the wheel Ben, and likely only ten ponies short of the 78 if that. Like I said, doubtful if those numbers changed much, just moved a bit in the RPM range due to valvetrain changes.

what you're sayin Brant makes alot of sense to me...I never felt my XJ was lacking anything and the numbers I do know about were from some other folks here that had dynoed their XJ before and after they had done all sorts of engine tuning and mods. In fact I may haver a copy of their dyno record... it came from Cody aka MAXIMAN.
