The frame looks like a standard (by the rear footpeg mount and the fact it has standard exhaust fitted), but it sure does have a bunch of MNS special parts too. Very much a project...

And you are going to refer the new owner to here, aren't you?

    Congrats on the quick sale.

And yes, the 81 MNS had the swirly wheels. One of those Pre XJ things they did with the LH models, along with the linked brakes.

Even though sold I will mention (as it might be good info) that the carbs are definitely 1980 or later carbs (you can see the idle screw tunnel on the front).

Ok, first of all, I want to thank each of you for your input. The feedback on this message board was fast and accurate and I want you all to know it is greatly appreciated. It's always nice to see people passionate about a particular subject and eager to help.

However.. Looks like the project sold. I have a customer here in Traverse City who has offered me $400 for the whole load. He is looking for a ground up project and this seems to be right up his alley. If this falls through I will definately come back here and let you all know.

Thanks again for the information though.

The early midnight didnt have the swirl wheels. I just learned that myself a couple weeks ago.

    wheels are not midnight

I am pretty sure all the MNS wheels were swirly - the ones in the pics look like mine from a regular 80 Special and have the slotted 80 rotors.

I am sure it will all make a bike though and when done it will be unique -

reminds me of that Johnny Cash song "One Piece at a Time" where he sneaks out a Cadillac in his lunchbox...

...You'll know it's me when I come through your town
I'm gonna ride around in style
    I'm gonna drive everybody wild
Cause I'll have the only one there is around...

That looks like a very doable project. It is surprising simpler than you might think to go from what you have to a running bike. It does appear to be a bit of a frakenbike. Lots of standard parts in the loose collection in box and such.

Be a fun one to play with if not for being so far away. Are the side covers int here somewhere? At a glance, they appear to be the only major pieces not accounted for.

Hmmm, if you have some standard (the rectangle shaped ones) front turn signals with the little bracket I would be up for buying those possibly.

There also appears to be a standard tank near the front of the P.U. bed on images 2 and 4

Interesting! That's surprising. The engine and frame may very well be from a 79 (SF), especially since the engine and pipes are not black. The entire front end looks like it's from a MNS though, as do the airbox, handlebars, and at least the caps on the carbs. You've got a bunch of parts from a Standard in that cardboard box though.

Check the serial number against this chart: http://www.xs11.com/faqs/153-serial-...ry-colors.html

That will tell you for sure what year and model it is. The title could be in error.

Ya know some one can give you one of these things and you will end up with more money in them than you can get out of them, i gave 50 bucks for one of those from karla to date i have 1000 in it, with new tires brakes, ods and ends, it all mounts up qiick.
