  • 1979 XS1100 project/parts

    Hey folks,
I am reletively new to these forums, the XS1100s, and even motorcycles in general. However, my wife commisioned a fella to build me a bike for my birthday. It turned out to more of a project than he could handle. I have taken delivery on the truckload of parts but I do not have the skill-set or finances to finish the project. I thought I might pop in here and see if anyone had an interest in helping me recoup some of the cash my wife put into the project.

I am willing to sell as a whole, part it out, or trade for a street ready starter bike to ride this summer... Whatever will put two wheels between me and the pavement.

Also, any advice on the subject is welcome as well.

I will keep an eye on this post, or you can contact me by e-mail with questions or picture requests, whatever you need, just ask

    Thanks again,
    Richard.

Pictures and location would help greatly. May even be someone local that could help you get what you have on the road....

Looks to have originally been an 80' MidniteSpecial......least chassis wise.......
81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

Agreed... Quite a mashup of parts though. It's mostly there, so it wouldn't take TOO much to get it back on the road. Then again, that's all relative.

I had been told by another source locally that is was probably a 1980 midnight special as well. The only thing tha concerns me then is that the numbers on the title, chasis, and engine all match and the title states 1979.

Check the serial number against this chart: http://www.xs11.com/faqs/153-serial-...ry-colors.html

That will tell you for sure what year and model it is. The title could be in error.

Interesting! That's surprising. The engine and frame may very well be from a 79 (SF), especially since the engine and pipes are not black. The entire front end looks like it's from a MNS though, as do the airbox, handlebars, and at least the caps on the carbs. You've got a bunch of parts from a Standard in that cardboard box though.

There also appears to be a standard tank near the front of the P.U. bed on images 2 and 4

Hmmm, if you have some standard (the rectangle shaped ones) front turn signals with the little bracket I would be up for buying those possibly.

That looks like a very doable project. It is surprising simpler than you might think to go from what you have to a running bike. It does appear to be a bit of a frakenbike. Lots of standard parts in the loose collection in box and such.

Be a fun one to play with if not for being so far away. Are the side covers int here somewhere? At a glance, they appear to be the only major pieces not accounted for.

                            wheels are not midnight

I am pretty sure all the MNS wheels were swirly - the ones in the pics look like mine from a regular 80 Special and have the slotted 80 rotors.

I am sure it will all make a bike though and when done it will be unique -

reminds me of that Johnny Cash song "One Piece at a Time" where he sneaks out a Cadillac in his lunchbox...

                            I'm gonna drive everybody wild
Cause I'll have the only one there is around...

The early midnight didnt have the swirl wheels. I just learned that myself a couple weeks ago.
