On Bob Jones's Name
Says he has 6 and the one pictured is for $5K did you contact him? How do you know all 6 are $5k each...heres the link...for that kinda money he damn well had better have documentation that Bob Jones did in fact work on them... http://kansascity.craigslist.org/mcy/1303497463.html
But this brings up a question just because Bob Jones worked on them...does that mean they are worth that much? I could see if they were Bob's bikes as they would no doubt go for even more $$$...but someone's bike that he maintained? JAT...
I remember not too many years ago saying the same thing about the Z1 and CB750 when prices were first on the rise and seemed over inflated - especially for stockers. The climb was slow but steady; a few bumps along the way, but they are still going up. Today, the nice ones are all but gone, having been sucked up and stashed away by anyone with the price of admission and the good fortune to find a keeper.
About 10 years ago, Sandcast Honda 750's crossed the $5K mark, and rusty parts bikes were suddenly valuable 'barn find' restoration projects. The same thing happened several years later with the rootbeer brown 900 Kaws (I know, I passed on a few minty $3500 originals thinking they could never be worth more). The day will soon come when the vintage enthusiasts and collectors realise the XS11 is as desireable and handsome as any of the $10K+ relics now commanding those prices, and the mighty Eleven will join the ranks of the coveted few.
Being priced out of many various cars and bikes over the years, it has come to my attention that if it was King-of-the-Hill and wildly popular when new, it will become equally desireable when it reaches classic collector age. Remember the Hemi, Chevelle SS, Mustang Fastback, Vincent Black Shadow, Indian 4, and oh yea - the CB750 and the Z1. at one time most all could be had for the same price as a new couch; sort of where many XS1100's are right now. Hmmm...
As a mechanic at a Yamaha dealer in the late 1970's, first hand experience proved the Eleven to be THE bike of 1978, except for maybe the CBX (gotta give Honda top awards for complexity if that's your thing). We could not keep a demo on the floor more than a day or two - one ride and they wanted 'that' one so they had the 'fastest' one, haha they were all fast! Imagine swinging down to your local Yamashop in 1978 on your 550 Honda or Suzuki Titan and trying on a new 11; they were usually sold before the box arrived.
It may be wise to hang on to that bone in the shed for a few more years

Sure it's gonna make some noise, there's GAS exploding in there!
I have two projects going on right now, an ol goldwing and the xs, i can find all kinds of parts bikes cheep for the gold wing but xs 1100 is a deferent story, few and far between, there is realy not that many out there, i have done searches all over the country on craigs list to come up with nill most of the time, found one i Co. and could not get there to get it so let a friend on here have it, so at some point you are proubly right they will be worth something it is just a matter of time.

There are 6 motorcycles total for sale. $5,000 each
Seems pretty clear to me. Unless he changed that after somebody called him.
So.. if Bob Jones maintained them for him, that means he has had nothing "Maintained" since Dec of '07 at the latest since that is when Bob... and Merriam Cycles passed. Merriam's was good, but proud of what they did. If they did all the work on the bikes, I can see why the guy would want 5 grand a piece trying to recoup some of the money he put into them. lol.

Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.
You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!
