Have you thought about putting a set of Dynas on it?
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

If one fracturers the epoxy internally, the other IS short to follow,BTDT. Your best bet for coils that never fail are Honda coils. The 3ohm VFR variety.....BTDT also a few years back.

If you plan-on keeping the bike long-term, I second the above and recommend Dyna coils.

I do plan on keeping it for a while. I was just trying to find something inexpensive to replace it for the moment. I am looking into the dyna coils, specifically the dyna dc1-1 coil which seems to be what most people on here use. What vfr model and year could fit our bikes?

Don't waste your time. put a set of used honda VFR coils on it. They dom't go bad and a local vender oughta' have a set. Just check for 3ohns on each one. Honha made an identical set for other apps the look identical, There are no markings as to which is which, so ohm check them before forking out the $20-$40 for a set.

              What year/model vfr coils work?
