In need of a speedo cable for my standard. Tried that generic one cut to length and crimped etc... lasted a couple of days only.

      Upgraded

I now need the gear drive and cable, as the factory crimped end (after market unit) broke off inside the drive.

Couldn't you pull out the pin with a strong magnet?

Haven't tried but I will. I just don't know if I trust that drive gear not to ruin/brake another cable.

Cable twisted and broke near the gear drive, would that indicate a bad gear drive?

If you can get that pin out, you could always try to turn the drive with a bit that fits inside and a slow drill speed setting. If it turns it should work fine. That might just break it lose if it is locked up. Or you could pop the wheel off and turn it from the inside. Either way if you are not confident in the drive mech, then I would try to manually turn it first rather than drive it and see if it breaks a cable or not. If it doesn't turn then I would look for a new one. If you do get it working a little cleaning and greasing might do wonders.
