Hi everyone. I can't say I'm in desperate need of one but if somebody has an extra choke lever for an 81 Special... Mine is snapped off right where it meets the middle portion. My choke is still functional, just hard to get my fingers on it and would be nice to have a new one.

Those are pretty rare in unbroken condition... fairly easy fix is to fab a 'replacement' lever out of some 1/8" aluminum and attach it over what's left. If you shape to match, it will look OEM.
Another fix is to remove the choke lever assembly, then thread the end of the choke rod with a 8/32 die. You can then screw a small drawer pull on...Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

Have seen the same thing done with a knob mounted on the remaining portion of pivot lever........way simpler and nutin' has to be removed to 'fix'.Last edited by motoman; 04-05-2012, 10:48 AM.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.Comment

Yeah, just remove the stock lever assembly. McMaster-Carr sells all sorts of knobs, you can even get ones with a set-screw so you don't even have to thread the rod.Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

I'm afraid that would eventually strip and slip. I have access to metric and sae tap and die sets so it would only take me a few min to thread the rod. I am so glad I joined this forum. Lots of good ideas and advice from people that know so much more than me.1981 XS1100 Special
