I'm looking for a rear brake shim for a 1980 xs1100 midnight special. I am rebuilding my rear brake and as I got the pads out realized there is no brake shim. If anyone happens to have one I'm very interested. Thanks.

hi robin,
if u cant get hold of one, u can make urself
one by cutting a soda can up, its only there
to help stop the brakes from squealing.
heres a pic that might help u out.

Shim
That shim IMO is completely unnecessary on the rear brake as is the small screw that goes thru the back of the caliper . Been running w/o both for 6 yrs with no ill effects. I will note this applies to the 80mns, not the 81. Completely different designs.
Those items may be of use on the front std model brakes which is the same design but the horizontal placement on the rear makes them unnecessary. Eliminating the small screw also makes pad replacement a 1 minute operation. Again REAR only.79SF
