Have you checked the coils? 2 & 3 use the same coil.

Yep, 2 and 3 are typically an electrical issue. Start at the pickup coil(s) looking for a broken wire. Look in the tech tips. This usually shows up as an intermittent problem, but could go this far if not fixed I would think. Then as indicated, check the coils. Also, check your wiring to the coils, check all connections and clean them good.

I've been working with arden.. on this. We fixed the pickup coil wires. Removed the carbs again and I found a few probs. Fuel lines clogged, and most notably, 2 & 3 pilot air screws busted and jammed in the ports. Diaphrams turned around wrong as well. We're gonna need a couple rebuild kits for parts and a few things that the kits don't provide.
What I'd really like to know is what the t's and hoses on at the top of the bowls are for. 80's+ don't have those, wonder why?(not the fuel feed... above at the diaphram level, but at the top of the bowl chamber)

They are for air. Originally plug into the stock airbox just like the oil breather hose. There are "2 types of BS34" carbs. Old/new. There's a few differences. You can search them here.
