Does anyone in the Midwest or SE US happen to have an original (original paint, exhaust, airbox etc) 78+ Yamaha XS 750-850 triple they'd be interested in selling? I'd be interested in buying. a '79 XS750F in black would be the "holy grail" with a 1980 XS850G as a runner up, but a '79 XS750SF Special or XS750E standard would be great too.
anyone looking to sell a XS750/850?

If you can find a XS750SF, they bring no money. I think that makes them harder to find. I believe the triples have a FB group.
I believe I know the bike in the picture. If that’s Tampa, I know where it is. Maybe could be purchased but won’t be cheap.Marty (in Mississippi)

I helped my brother find a totally original and complete 4k mile '79 XS750F in 2021, only issue was rusted out muffler ends. We paid $1200 for it, wish I kept it for myself! I'm keeping an eye out on FB marketplace and I'm being picky. Silly as it sounds, but if I see pod filters, I walk. I've learned to be willing to spend the money up front for a clean original bike.'98 GSF1200S '81 GS850G

My bother-in-law and I are Triple riders.
I've been riding an SF since 1980. I bought and sold an identical SF after fixing it.
My BIL has a 1980 Midnight Special.
These bikes are comfortable and nimble on the back roads, but they are a bit light for the highway.
I hope you find what you are looking for. They are a good value when you find them.-Mike

I figured there would be plenty of crossover from XS11 owners on here and the triples! My riding is almost exclusively back roads and state highways with 55mph speed limits. I really enjoy riding my brother's XS750. It's obviously missing the big bore wallop of the XS11, but has a very pleasing over-the-road "gait" from that soulful triple, and a really smooth ride. I like that it's a bit lighter than the XS11s as well. He also gets 45mpg+ out of his, to the 36mpg I always seemed to get out of my '79 XS1100F, not matter how I rode it.My bother-in-law and I are Triple riders.

That captures the feeling. I am confident and comfortable on my Triple. Fits me like a glove.

I had a chance to buy a very nice XS750 Special a few years ago. Other than the fact that it wasn’t running, the condition was exceptional. I later had some regret about that. The 750 Special has less appeal to me than the others. But because it has a a 17 in real wheel, I think it looks good with a superbike bar, rearsets and a cafe seat. Maybe a 3 into 1 pipe and it’s done! IMHO, the 11 Special doesn’t lend itself to easy cafe conversion.Last edited by jetmechmarty; 03-05-2026, 02:16 PM.Marty (in Mississippi)

Here is one from a guy who obviously smoked a big fat bag of crack while pricing this.

Cafe bikes seem to be listed at premium prices but I'm not so sure they're actually getting those kind of dollars out of them. It seems to me that if I wanted a fast stripped down bike I'd start with something much newer and more power to begin with, it's still a 45 year old bike to underneath. Let's face it, we love our XS's but 95 HP isn't squat these days.

I believe the cafe craze has passed. Stock bikes and in some cases resto-mods are more likely to bring any premium, IMHO.Cafe bikes seem to be listed at premium prices but I'm not so sure they're actually getting those kind of dollars out of them.
