Ian... I'm down to just the XS1100...The ST is sold... While i love SwampThing...i find myself drawn to the Venture full touring bikes...I would love the comfort of a Goldwing but with a Yamaha badge on it...The ST1100s are nice but. They require alot of farkling to get the configuration just right...very few people are comfortable on the ST1100 or ST1300 straight out of the box...so to say . My passion has been and will always be with Yamaha first and foremost...I just realized that i need to update my sig. a little...LOL
Wow. Way to burst my bubble on the ST, lol. Well, I guess a Kaw Voyage or Venture may be in my future.
Theres nothing wrong with an ST1100 its a fine machine please dont discount it based on what I've said...it is a purely subjective POV...I actually loved mine and have become spoiled by a modern fully faired Sport Tour machine.. For me once I figured out what was making me uncomfortable and have that remedied then the bike was super comfortable all day long...economics forced me to reluctantly sell...so being left with a half dressed XS1100 does leave me wanting for a more comfortable touring rig....for the money right now I have found some awesome deals on 1300cc Venture Royale... I really cant afford to keep more than one bike but I am not ready to give up on SwampThing for a heavier and bulkier bike...part of the reason I have not sought out a bigger touring bike is well because they're damn big bikes... MY ST1100 weighed in at 730 lbs...a full dress Venture Royale is very close to 900 lbs
I like the looks of the 83-85 Venture, but I would go for the 86 -93 Royal if I was looking for one. They have more storage, better brakes and more parts available. One thing you need to remember is that there are a lot of these bikes out there with well over a 100k on them. I have one and it is showing 28K, but the speedometer has rolled over one time. It really has 128k miles on it.

Yes I totallly agree...also the MK1 is 1200cc and the MK2 is 1300cc...Plus the MK2 has upgraded seats ...more comfort...I would love to test ride one of these...are they top heavy or just plain heavvvy?

The 2nd Gen. Venture (known as the Royal Star Venture) was introduced in 1999 and continued through the 2013 model year.
It had a wet weight of around 870 lbs. ... HEAVY!
Here is a very nice example of a 2006 Royal Star Venture:

I'm sure if i rode the newer Venture Star I'd prolly like it...I'm no stranger to V4 motors either...The VMax is a souped up over the cruiser applications...I just dont care that everyone is cloning the HD look...you're right tho' it is subjective...highly

Yeah, the Vmax was tuned for more power than either incarnation of the Venture (1200cc or 1300cc) ... and it had the "V-Boost" ...
But I've always been a fan of the Honda V-4's, too ... really like the ST's, especially the 1300 ...

Yes the 86-93 Ventures are top heavy compared to the XS11. At one time I owned an 81 XS11, 83 Gold Wing and 86 Venture at the same time. Both the Wing and Venture were noticeable heavier, about 150 lbs. The Venture took the most effort to get off the side stand and at very low speeds. The first time I rode a Venture was when I test rode my 86 Venture. For years I had heard how top heavy they were and me only being 5’6, I thought it would be too tall for me. After that first test ride I knew I had to have it. Did I say I bought it home with me that day? The Venture Royals have an onboard air leveling system. With the air set on low I could put both feet flat on the ground better than the XS11. After getting the Venture both the XS and Wing went up for sale. I did miss the XS, but not the Wing. I put 42K miles on the XS, 25K on the Wing and 115K on the Venture.

Marco... I've owwned 2 ST1100s a '95 and a '01. Both were awesome sport touring platforms...they do everything well but never stand out in any one area. The ST1300 is also a an excellent sport tourer...its fuel injected whereas the 1100 is carbuerated. I have always preferred the styling of the 1100 over the 1300...and the gauge pkg on the 1300 is partially digital...it can wash out in bright sun and you also cant see your blinking turn signals...the 1100 is all analog gauges which I also prefer....Both platforms are rock solid...dead nuts reliable,,,well known for their endurance and longevity...it is not unheard of to obtain 300000+ miles on them...they never burn oil and the 1100's would get 48-50mpg....If you haven't already...check out ST-Owners.com and ST-Riders.net both sites have 1100 and 1300 owners...there is a wealth of information and lots of great folks just like here at CH11...
Earl...I am used to top heavy bikes except that none of thm weigh as much as a Venture or a GW...so I guess the only way to know for sure if the Venture is a ride I'd like is to ride demo ride one...
