Ruidoso? Cloudcroft? If going north, Red River, Taos, Angel Fire? Back way thru the Black Mountains to Silver City is a killer ride also.

Yes that is a good ride.....did it last summer, but it was a nippy day for some reason, in the mountains anyway......I realize it is probably better to plan something for next year because this summer looks preety solid with XS member meets...........especially East...... perhaps summer 07' would be better????? I am trying to plan on the texas meet, but it doesn't look good right now, but who knows!! I would love to meet some members, They look like they have fun when they get together.....TopKat sent me a great DVD of a meet in Georgia(?) they had a few years ago.......got to ride the Dragon, lucky dogs!!

...how about the East (North) rim of the Grand Canyon?

          ...or Four Corners?

there's *nothing* like a sunrise in the desert IMHO

            Good Idea !!

I think that would be cool, I don't know how many members have never been there, but it would be hella scenic, and I personally have never camped in the Grand Canyon, but I see people doing it, and seem to really enjoy it..........I am more inclined to mountain areas where we can do twisties, and a bit cooler in the summer, but the Canyon is a great spot........I guess this will take some planning...........I was also thinking about Redwood forest, and the coastal highway........THAT is also a great ride if the weather is good............anybody like these ideas, pitch in........2007 is a ways away.....

ya want 'twisties'? - goin' up to Jacob Lake to get to the North (and East) rim it's 7,500 ft above sea level, and some great ridin' roads....

ya want 'cool' - at that altitude it *WILL* be cool; bring your leathers/chaps/gloves etc... and a warm sleeping bag.

'have camped out at the East rim *many* times - it is "REMOTE" - you take everything you need in, and remove all your garbage... and you can forget your cell phone, and radio - you will *NOT* get reception.

I've only found one person willing to go there - I married her

Whoa... What summer XSrallies in the east?
XSeast is in WV on May 26,27,28 2006
Vintage jap bikes (Since the best show up, many XS1100) on October 13.14,15,2006 at TWO two wheels only Suches, Ga This is just south of Deals Gap, the Dragon. Come on down & join us! ( WV unXSpected rally was also TWISTY last year) See American Motorcyclist mag. Feb2006 for pics - Best of the east

Last year,2005, XSeast Got XSive Canada day and July 4. It was in Bainbridge NY but I have not heard of any XS eastern rallies for summer 2006. Some of us might like to join you in the southwest this summer. I have been looking at pics of Oatman,Kingman, and Prescott, AZ. I have also been reading over some of AMA conquer the canyons itinerary. I bet you could show us some different and beautiful scenery & roads. (I first heard about Chalma in 2002 from an XSive in NY)

XSeast has been great fun. Riding has often covered more than one state. (We might cross a line or two on a day ride.) Topkat is head and shoulders above the average man and great to ride with. The XSives that regularly show up or host rallies are surel great too, (even if some of them do ride other makes of bikes.)

I will be lurking, and hope to see you
                  Happy motoring,

                    I'm interested.

The Grand Canyon would be nice and it's close enough for me to get there on a weekend.

Tooo many XS adventures for 2006 right now, so we are planning for 2007, so put in your 2 cents now, so we can make it great ,since we have lots of time now..........any input would be great, I have never sponsored this kind of event before, but I would help whomever volunteers to get the ball rolling.

I plan on being on the road the last two weeks of July, this year. I know Tuscon, AZ and Los Aloamos, NM are on the plate, as well as Cleveland, OH to see a cousin.
I do plan on riding back the "upper route", but I'm open...

                            N.W. colorado great riding/rally area

Greetings from Meeker colorado. I'm quite new to the list but have been riding for 35 of my 46 years with around 30 bikes owned and ridden so far. currently on a 1977 CB750 "cafe" I built myself and exhuming a 1979 XS1100 standard.
I'm assistant manager of a historic (hysteric?) quaint old hotel-www.themeekerhotel.com and have been riding these wonderful roads for quite sometime. "Close" proximity to Grand junction, glenwood springs Aspen Steamboat etc.
welcome to all who pass through- very motorcycle friendly hotel and town.
                            regards,
                            rik

North Rim of the Grand Canyon is much nicer than the south rim, plus roads getting there are more impressive for motorcycle riding. Some short trips around the rim, very good scenic views. There is a clean campground that accepts reservations through the Park Service web-based reservation service. Fills up quickly, though, have to get requests in early. Food / gas / rental rooms and lodges all available within the park or on road into park, for those who prefer solid walls to canvas ones.

Traditionally the rallies include road trips, which would be very limited in this venu. There is Pipe Springs national monument, couple hours away, which is a nice ride to and from, up along a ridge then down into another valley. Pipe Springs is an interesting place for a stop or guided tour. For those who have never seen Lake Powell, a ride over and back is also doable, but is not a loop and you would be backtracking. Backtracking is not a Bad Thing in this part of the country, BTW, but most people would have covered much of this route on the way in or will cover it on the way home.

I think most people would enjoy a trip to the North Rim, just plan on less riding and more sight-seeing than is typical for an XS rally.

Last time I was there was in the fall, some nice colors and cooler temps (summer temps easily in the 90s, often 100+ degrees F) and really enjoyed it. For those who might plan an entire vacation around this trip, you can do the "Grand Staircase", which includes the Grand Canyon, Bryce, and Zion national parks, along with lesser known parks like Capitol Reef. Get one of the annual Golden Eagle National Parks Pass if you plan to hit any 2 or more of the parks, it will save you money. The major parks are within a day's ride of each other, makes a great vacation trip.

More details of my North Rim trip were published in this thread:
