Beware South of the Border -

Mexico: South of San Diego in Baja, California in, around, and near Rosarito Beach / Puerto Nuevo.

There have been increasing reports of American tourists; campers, surfers and kayakers being sexually assaulted, robbed by masked men, and guys posing as police officers using flashing lights. Surfers: Armed carjackings along the toll road heading south through Baja are way up.

Be extremely careful on side roads, while riding at night and be particularly alert at the more distant beach campgrounds.

US Consulate has issued warnings to US citizens traveling in Baja, MX. Wife's company went south for a weekend last summer and risked their execs being kidnapped and held for ransom.

There have been numerous robberies of US tourists using ATMs in coastal areas. According to recent press business is off at Mexican resorts by 50 to 80%.

While some travelers have been dismissive of articles describing open season on tourists even the Mexican police are admitting the crime wave reports are "credible."
    -------------
Arizona US - There was a 4 to 5 hour wait to cross the international border while heading for a recent Rocky Point MC cycle rally held in October. Travel in groups and don't flash cash.

Safe Riding Areas: US side of the border from Phoenix, AZ to Bisbee via I-10, south on I-19 to Nogales, AZ. Scenic routes: use SR 82 - 83 through Sonoita & Patagonia ... a charming small town on the way. Or take SR 90 from Benson (at I-10) south to Tombstone, AZ. Take your camera.

    Keep it safe. Rob
