  • 21st Annual Vintage Yamaha Rally Sept 22-25, 2022

    XS11 Friends,

The Annual Vintage Yamaha Rally (VYR) will again be held the last weekend in September in Stecoah, North Carolina.

It is NOT too early to start planning for the 2022 VYR. The Iron Horse no longer offers our group a "blackout period" for reservations, it is first-come first -serve. Therefore, it is imperative that you make your reservations as soon as possible.

The 2021 Event was a fantastic milestone with several new faces as well as Yamaha Factory Representation. The 2022 event will again most certainly be an event for all to enjoy and remember

Looking forward to seeing all our XS11 friends next year!

(Nancy & I on our XS11SG followed by: Norman on his FZ03, and Keith on his RD350)

    Chris Behm's Blue XS11SF

Duwayne Potter's & his Midnight XS11 on the end.

Mark Lew with is XS11SG at the Windy City Grill in Tennessee

    A Sunday ride with Friends......

Yamaha Factory Representative selected as one of five very special machines represented at the rally.

    COME JOIN THE FUN!!!

Well friends there hasn't been a post here in a while. Yet another job change and the demands of yet another job hunt have limited the activity here. Now, with a new job in-hand, it's time to get thinking about the rally!!
    ONLY FOUR MONTHS AWAY!

We'll be checking in on the Iron Horse this week to see what is still available and will post the results. Hopefully, our Canadian friends will be able to attend this year????? Let us know if you are coming.

I'll touch base with the organizing team and get some ideas rolling for the T-Shirt. I assume ya'll want a shirt? Got any ideas for the theme this year? Last year Paul's daughter provided the great artwork and we may ask for her assistance again this year. What about color? What would be your preference?

Anyone working on a new bike project for the rally? I've got an old one and a new one. The newly acquired XS850SG is not likely to make the rally as it has far too much work and $$ required to make her safe, reliable, and nice.
HOWEVER, I have an XS1100SF (we call her Pensacola after her place of purchase) that's been an off/on/off/on project for about 5 years. Well Pensacola is a bit modified as you can plainly see and is now an ON project. I'm hopeful she will attend VYR 2022 for her first time....

Come on....Let's get some activity going here!!!

I'm debating which bike to bring this year.

I leaning toward toward bringing The Bagger XS1100SG to share the NOS Jardine spaghetti exhaust:

Actually, we've had a few orders so far..... We change the color & design every year and had run out of options for something different. The organizing team (me very much included) dislike "BLACK" as that's the absolute favorite of the HD crowd, not likely to see a BLACK t-shirt for the VYR.

We did black for 2017, so it has been done. How many black shirts does one need?

                        The Awards have been received!

First, an explanation of our awards….

The Vintage Yamaha Rally is a “RIDERS RALLY” our bikes don’t sit static and unridden WE RIDE. Each day groups are formed to go out and enjoy the beautiful scenery, fantastic (and sometimes challenging) roads, eat lunch together, and return to the lodge for dinner and an evening of comradery with friends around the campfire or during our Saturday evening festivities.

A few years ago, the Organizing Team decided it would be nice to be able to recognize some of the hard work our attendees had performed in restoring or modifying their machines. A very NON-TRADITIONAL “Bike Show” was begun. This is no ordinary show, all of the ATTENDEES receive a ballot and vote on their favorite Vintage Yamahas. Typically, the attendees couldn’t care less if there is a little dirt or road grime on the bike. There are no formal judging forms “no points for this” or “deductions for that”. Just the votes from your friends to recognize your effort in restoring or resto-modification of your Vintage Yamaha.

In addition, the Yamaha Factory Representative selects a machine that he feels exemplifies Vintage Yamaha. Last year, and again this year, Yamaha also awards several additional machines with Gift Certificates for Yamaha Merchandise.
As a side note, ALL of our attendees are RIDERS! They love Vintage Motorcycles all shapes and sizes. And although ALL are welcome to attend the Vintage Yamaha Rally, only Yamaha Motorcycles 20+ years of age or older are considered eligible for the awards.

                        BEST OF SHOW
                        YAMAHA FACTORY PICK
                        BEST RESTORATION
                        BEST RESTORATION 2nd PLACE
                        BEST MODIFIED
                        BEST MODIFIED 2nd PLACE

(Yes Duwayne, they are purple to match the shirts, although we left the YAMAHA Award Blue for "Team Blu")

Pensacola has been patiently waiting for a few years. She looks great and ready to roll.

Officer Huckabee will say, "I weren't spectin' to ketch you...I's spectin' to ketch me one of them sport bikes!"

                              OOOOPS!
We took the artwork to the Shirt Printer Guy and found that our "Purple" shirt was going to require five(5) different print colors including a white base to make it look acceptable. As a result, the shirt cost (per unit) would have been astronomical!

The printer guy suggested that GRAY would be a good choice and keep us at a breakeven point (the VYR does not charge fees or make money in any way). So, the shirt is now GRAY....

We've extended the cut-off to THIS FRIDAY but "The Printer Guy" gets his check and the order on Saturday so there is still time if you are interested.
