20th Annual Vintage Yamaha Rally Sept 23-27, 2021

The Robbinsville area is as beautiful as always. We had a great time last weekend.... Going back in a month to do more recon for the rally.

About four months until Rally Time.
My bike isn't Rally Ready yet. Hopefully get to working on it again soon.

But Mike has gotten his Maintenance completed. Needed a Test Ride.
So Mike, Scott and I rode a 1,061 mile ride to Biloxi. Took lots of backroads across Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi.
Four days of Riding. Lots of curves. About zero traffic the entire 4 days. A darn good Test Ride for Mikes xs11.

Had been riding around the Bayou and got hungry Brisket & Sausage plus Fixins


Mike has his 11 dialed in perfectly. 42 MPG hauling luggage is darn good MPG for an XS11

Some good eating with brisket and sausage then we feasted on Royal Red shrimp & a few dozen fresh oysters. Worth the ride just for that.
fwiw, I just put Michelin Road 5 GT's on "other bike' and was very pleased with them on the ride. They are round and hold air, so all is good.

With luck the USA will open up the Canadian Border (allow vaccinated Canadians into the USA) on September 7th as mentioned in the Wall Street Journal. The next border control discussion date between USA & Canada is August 21st. Though Canada is opening northbound into Canada for vaccinated Americans on August 9th.
We missed seeing our Canadian friends last year and hope the border opens southbound for them so they can venture to XSSE / VYR. (and of course northbound stays open so they can get home)

Holy Wow! Can't believe that it is almost August already but anxiously "chomping at the bit" to be there on Thursday this year. Made my room reservation last year before leaving that great Rally weekend. Got a cabin to share with Earl G. Really looking forward to being up there to celebrate the 20th year with all you great folks! Be well and ride safe!

FWIW, Deadline for Ordering Rally Shirts is Tuesday August 31st.

Boo-Hiss, not the news we were waiting for:
Reuters: "this AM Friday Aug 20th the United States extended the closure of its land borders with Canada and Mexico to non-essential travel
such as tourism through Sept. 21 despite Ottawa's decision to open its border to vaccinated Americans".
So another year without seeing our friends from Canada at the Sept XSSE Rally. Yes, we be singing the blues like this font color.
Maybe next year or hopefully a 2022 Florida Rally in Feb or March.

Kurt & Nancy will be at Iron Horse starting Tuesday 21st. I will ride up on Thursday 23rd as are many others.
Looking forward to getting to Stecoah and doing the 'ings' as in Riding, Eating, BS(ing) & Sleeping. Hopefully without any Wrenching.
That's one 'ing' we want to do before & after the Rally, not roadside during.
If ambitious its also a great place for jogging or hiking. Whatever 'ing' floats your boat.

FWIW: Hurricane Fred did some tree down / mud slide damage in the area but that has mostly been repaired.
Hurricane Ida just went by but not seeing any new damage that will be an issue come Rally Time.
Will check if there are any lingering issues after Labor Day and post that.

Remember, its not too late. Join us if you can. Stecoah NC Sept 24-25-26 or go for the full monte 23-27.
