I have encouraged some of you to come to XSSE from far away. I decided last week to practice what I'm preaching. I rode my XS1100SG to XS East. The trip total was about 2700 miles. I took my time and the trip total was eight days. I spend less than $800. Not bad for such a great time.
Here is my bike in front of the bunkhouse at Willville. I made it part of my trip, both up and back.

So, anyway, get on your bike and ride down to XS Southeast. It's going to be a great time!Leave a comment:

If you have made up your mind to come to this thing and you have a FB account, check in as COMING on the event page. It will help with planning. Remember, we have to plan lunch, gas, and bathroom stops. We may have to recruit ride leaders. Getting a good guesstimate might be helpful.
Check in here.
If you've been a regular and you know you're not coming, you can let us know that at the same place. I'm expecting a good turnout this year.Leave a comment:

Hi je2wheeler,
The Thursday night will be quiet although you will probably not be alone. I would check with IH if they can feed you or eat before you get there.
There is a map in the lodge with all kinds of rides so pick one we are not going on and have some fun on Friday.

I confirmed my reservation in the Bunkhouse today. Now I just need to take the cover off the XJ and start riding it again!Leave a comment:

Hi Marty,
Thanks for showing the alternatives.
Surely the bunk house at Iron Horse is not fully booked yet?
To any newbies coming to this event I highly recommend staying " on site" at Iron Horse there is a lot going on.
Kick Stand is a fine, more rustic, facility with a comfortable bunkhouse which I have used but is not on site.

If you want a bed at the Iron Horse, the time to make your reservation is now.
Kickstand Lodge is two miles away and has bunkhouses. Tuskeegee Motel is six miles away and a few choose to stay here.
If you're going to pitch a tent, you can wait until the last minute.

Plan on it!
Now that I am four hours and two tanks away, I'll be there.Leave a comment:

Iron Horse Bound I hope
I’m working with the Iron Horse inn now on the reservations. Really looking forward to the rides this year. My cousin Doug will be with me this year on his 78. Last week I sent 2 days riding an 81 XS850 with less the 3K on the clock thru the Tehachapi Mountains and around the Analope Valley near Lancaster CA. I’ll tell ya all about it around the camp fire.

Hi George,Since work precludes me from attend the EAST rally this spring, I've been dreaming even more about the SE rally this fall.
Last year, I took a little advice from Phil and detoured off my super-slab ride there and enjoyed a few hours in the twisties before arriving about 6pm.
This year I think I might take an extra day and ride down the Blue Ridge all the way from the VA/NC line.
"It's not so much about the destination as it is about the journey getting there!"
That sounds like an excellent plan. My plan is to take an extra day for the ride home to enjoy some of the roads in the N Carolina/ Virginia .
