Key West road trip 2012

Time to make plans.

Looks like I will not be making most of the ride this year, but several are planning to make the trip again.
People indicating plans to attend include

General Itinerary.
Leave from Don Hathers House in Havanna FL (near Tallahassee) - Plenty of secure parking is there.
Ride 1500 miles to Key west & back over 5 or 6 days.

Activities, lodging, dining popular on this road trip in past years include;
Amish buffet in Sarasota, pies at Yoder's
Seafood festival in Everglades City
Tamiami Trail scenic byway & alligator viewing
Floating Inn & Houseboatel in Key Largo. Hideout resturaunt
Everglades NP, Micasukee Indian Casino
Tour of Coral Castle
Spanish Garden Inn Key west. Sunset at Mallory Pier
Mel Fishers Treasure Museum
A&B Lobster house
Picnic at end of 7 mile bridge
Scenic break overlooking Lake okochobee in Pahokee
Castile San Marco , conch House St Augustine
ride through sparsley populated central FL & Yee Haw Junction

Other Sugested activities for consideration include;
Crossing over a Big bridge near Tampa,
Boat rides - Canoe in the oceola NF, Glass bottom boats in Key west, Sunset sail cruise, Airboat ride in Everglades. Pontoon boat ride to fort Matanzas south of St. Augustine. Ride to the Dry Tortugas out of Key west.
Tours - Harry Truman's sourthern white house, Earnest Hemingways house,

We need a date. Mid January thru mid Feb has worked well in years past.
Don is good with any date.
When do Y'all want to go. Earl knows the way and Jeff is good with his GPS phone, etc..

Dates, Routes, prices - choices

Spanish Gardens still has enough rooms for the group.

Monday and/or Tuesday January 30-31 is $109 plus tax. The following week Mon Feb 6 - Tuesday Feb 7 jumps up by +$20 a night to $129 plus tax.

Floating Inn and Boatel are $85 to $100 depending on the room type for either Sunday January 29 or Sunday February 5.

Best Trip dates could be:
Friday January 27 to Saturday February 4 -or- the following week Friday Feb 3 to Saturday Feb 11.

Key Decisions:
#1 - Dates
#2 - One or Two nights in Key West
#3 - Start actual ride in Havana and go down to Sarasota like previous years -or- start in Jacksonville and go down the east coast (which is a much slower mph) with less miles covered per day but more sightseeing.

It would be good to get as many XS people on the ride as possible which always makes it more fun.

#1 either week work for us, we plan to stay a little longer anyway.

#2 1 day at Key West is OK with us and we enjoyed the Floating Inn / Boatel

#3 We hope to leave our trailer with Don.

#3a If the first week, we can start in Jacksonville or Havana go the east coast route and return via the west coast. Everglades City Seafood Festival: Feb. 3-5, 2012, can work for the Friday.

#3b If the second week and we want to fit in the Seafood festival, it will be Sarasota Friday night and the Festival on the Saturday,
