    Fork seals

Looking at yamaha parts list, I see 3 candidates for seals:
    41Y-23145-00-00 OIL SEAL - (2H7-23145-00)
    2H7-23146-00-00 WASHER, OIL SEAL
    2H7-23156-00-00 CLIP, OIL SEAL

Do I want the first one? "Oil Seal"?

Do I need all of them?

    thanks

Thanks, I'll call and ask how much on the bike and compare. There's only one motorcycle shop here in town, but they happen to be a moto superstore authorized installer, so we'll just have to see.

K, I think I found the right Yamaha fork seals, but this place has no picture and it's a water sports store, but the part number matches up. Do you think these are the right ones?

Seems like a steal of a price, but they do slap $11.15 on there for shipping.

On the petcocks, I found the set georgefix has on eBay for $60, so that's going in the cart unless someone screams "don't do it get the ones at oldbikebarn.com" before tomorrow.

Oh, and I got my 3 used intake boots today, thanks to a kind forum member .

Not sure on the fork seals, but anything form georgefix is usually a good bet. He knows his stuff, and has a history of treating the XSive community well. If it's not right, he'll either make it right or refund your $.

So, way back when you posted this, I just brushed it off as another one of those dumb lawyer jokes...but last week I got to register for classes for next year and....you'll never guess what I saw "BS 6003" (we like to use big numbers in law school, it helps us feel important ). The funny thing, it turns out it is a concurrent enrollment class at Moore Norman Technology Center entitled "Ethics and Mechanics".

The funnier thing, I was asking around to see who the teacher for the class was, and they tell me it's a 3-hour Saturday class taught by some Auto Technician named Greg that they bring in from Tulsa because of his expertise in the subject!

Ahem.............. I'm not a mechanic, I'm an automotive technician and the class will be held in John and Kats garage 12PM-3PM 4/17/10. Or not, depending on hangover severity. Bring your own ethics and a $30 enrollment fee ( cash only ).

Seriously......if that is a real class I probably know, sorta, the guy teaching it. A guy named Greg, can't recall the last name, that used to work at a place called Whittey's in Bixby. He's an instructor at a technical school now.

Anybody have another set of carbs they want to get rid of. that is going to MOM? Last year at the rally we had problems with bob's carbs and Lee (RIP), who we will all miss this year, sent us another bank of carbs. The thing is I think the carbs are messed up a little bit and we cant get # 2 to get right. Going to go put mine on there tonight to see if it works or not.

Just updating my list after a few more weeks riding.

I think it will be a lot simpler to just do this.

                          Scratch this old stuff.

                          1. Brakes
                          2. replace brake fluid (clean the system out)
                          3. Front fork oil (and maybe seals????)
                          4. Take a peek at all my bearings and make sure they're ok
                          5. Figure out if any of my loose electrical wires actually belong to something important or useful
                          6. decide if I need to replace throttle cable
                          7. sync carbs
                          8. decide if carbs need to be cleaned
                          9. check plugs and respective cables
                          10. clean/rebuild petcocks
                          11. clean tank/decide if I need to get it sealed
                          12. middle and final gear oil changes
                          13. shock oil (I think they have oil in them, right?)
                          14. anything that can be done about any rust any where
                          15. get the thing sparkly clean, well...within reason
                          16. anything else that we learn about while I'm there that I'm clueless about now

                          New list:
                          • The whole monster
                          • And maybe a few screws in my head too. I think I might have blown my actual, human head's gasket

.....how much of that stuff did you actually get done if any? What OTHER problems are you expeiencing other than the wobble?

Well, I've gotten a bunch of parts collecting in a box to address some of these things, and I just keep adding things like check/pack bearings, check rear wheel, clean calipers, so I thought it would be easier just to say the whole bike. Right now it feels and looks reasonably safe to make the ride to Hurst, and if something happens on the way I have a friend in Weatherford,TX with a trailer that could come pick it up if something happens on the way. How many parts I'll end up with and things to do, well, that could be a very long list.

I fixed my alignment and went on a 25 mile ride without any wobble, just lots of wind, but that's just OK. With any luck, I'll have a stock fender put on before the ride down.

Yea, I read earlier where you had gotten that fixed. That's great!

As for the other stuff, prioritize. Fix one thing at a time and don't even be thinking of any of the other problems as you are doing THAT thing.

The exeption is if you have to dissassemble something else that needs attention when attacking the priority. Even then don't get brain scattered. IMHO

                                As for the trip.....
If you like I'll PM you my cell # and if you get into trouble I'll be heading down I 35 friday morning and stopping in Gainsville for a bit.
