  • Operation MoM

Another successful MoM with approximately 15 bikes, lots of extremely great people, WAY too much food and far too few pictures to document it all...

It began Friday morning with rpgoerlich riding up from the Houston area and Da-bubble coming in from OKC with his Dad from Dallas... Da-bubble's most awesome bobber was the first patient to go under the wrench for a valve shim adjustment and to have the clutch discs and springs replaced...

A pic of the patient open for surgery on the operating table...

I had ridden up to Ardmore, OK to meet up with the northern contingent and the tear down was well underway by the time we got back... but it didn't take long for everyone to join in on the fun... with several others rolling in to help, point and supervise during the procedure...

Who needs a bigger hammer when you have a big stick?

A few pics of bikes and XSives...

Bigfoot was able to get quite a few things done on my Midnight as well... I mean... his Midnight... ahem...

There was no shortage of helpers...

Around 6:30... everyone took a break to go down to the neighbors' home where the food had been set up... It was a combination block party/ rally dinner but I had no idea the neighborhood watch officer planned on giving a presentation... Everyone was pretty cool about it though and I think some were very thankful for the added break - although there were a couple of hecklers (names will be withheld... not to protect the innocent... but because everyone knows who it is anyway)

Da-bubble's bike was buttoned up after dinner and the lift was empty... waiting for the next patient... which ended up being a little more involved than most realized...
kirmit77 and his boss, Bob, arrived pulling this...

kirmit77 has been pretty busy lately... so the guys told him half-jokingly to put what he had in some boxes and bring it up... to their surprise and delight... he did...

Saturday it went on the lift for some reconstructive surgery...
It's the first time a bike has gone on this lift by being lifted rather than rolled...

Unfortunately... not all of the parts made it up... so they worked with what they had...
    Some progression shots...

They got as far as they could before it had to be put back on the trailer... but kirmit was happy...

Look at that smile... just wait until it actually has an engine to propel it...

Although... he has a pretty sweet set up with his 1 Boss Hoss power... it even comes with reverse...

The set up is so intimidating that nobody wanted to race him... Here he is on the starting line...

Unfortunately... the weekend was not without its human casualties as some have seen by trbig's post here...

    Down and Dirty

All I have to say about that is...

    shiver

Despite that part... it was an incredible weekend and I was lucky to meet some new XSives and spend some time with some really good friends... Thanks to everyone who made it in and a huge thanks to everyone who helped throughout it all!

I can't wait until we can do it again...
and speaking of... next year... it's in April (bring your rain gear)
This high 90s stuff in June... well... it's in April next year... lol

Nice write up Kat. I will add my account of the trip. My day started weekend started out on a lovely Thursday morning rushing around town to get loaded up and ready. Bob "Ironbutt" Falter showed up around 1pm. We caught up for a few minutes and headed to get some lunch. We ate at Five Guys burgers. A little pricey but well worth it. We topped off the tanks and headed out.

With full tanks and bellies, we headed south on I-35. Other than a really stiff 25-35 mph headwind the ride was enjoyable. I was jamming along to some Metallica when in a flash I saw my Samsung Omnia phone eject itself from its cradle and go flying over my shoulder and everything went quiet. Watched for a few seconds in my rear view as my shiny toy bounced down the freeway at 80 shedding small shiny bits and peices. Bob rolled up next to me to see if I wanted to go back. I knew it wasn't worth the effort so we kept on going.

The wind was a real pain and Bob and I were both beat by the time we got to Wichita. We checked into a room and then headed out to visit the wounded silverback (aka Ivan). He seemed in good spirits and we visited for about 45 minutes with him and his wife.

By this time I was seriously Jonesing for my cell phone. We went to a Verizon store where I was helped by a cute, very very friendly lady named Victoria who had a real nice pair of personalities and about a mile of cleavage showing. She was a really great saleswoman whos main sales strategy seemed to be flirting and leaning over the counter. They were not able to get my phone replaced but I did leave with a new mini laptop and a two year data plan on it. What can I say, she was good at her job.

Beer and Pizza for dinner and 5am came quick. Met up with Trainzz (Lee) and his SWMBO (Terri) for breakfast at 6am and hit the road. It was mostly an uneventfull trip south with Bob in the lead and Terri trying to keep up in the car. We met up with Kat and Tod in Ardmore, OK and made pretty good time on the rest of the way to Hurst.

We had a very nice time at John and Kat's (despite the roasting heat). Kat forgot to mention the cool car show and the awesome ribs that she smoked.

The trip back north was HOT, long, and uneventful. Bob had headed out early so it was just Lee and I with Terri once again following. Hobbyman (Andrew) was kind enough to give us an escort out of town so we didn't get lost. No problems with the bikes other than Lee almost lost his seat when the bolts broke on one of the bumbs on those wonderfully maintained Oklahoma freeways. I made it home in KC about 11 hours later very hot and tired but would do it again in a heartbead.

Thanks to John and Kat for their hospitality and all of their hard work putting this together.

          A Big Thanks!

Hey I never took the time to publicly thank everybody on here for helping with my bike. Thanks to Richard, Tod and John for helping me wrench. Oh, and hobbyman for cleaning those gasketing surfaces for me...they all leak but that's ok! And a special thanks to John and Kat for opening up their home to us. Next year I hope to be able to spend more time hanging out with people rather than covered with grease from head to toe. The new clutch feels awesome though! This thing really pulls hard now! It's been slipping since I bought the bike but I guess I didn't realize how bad.

          Thanks to all!

          See you next time,
          Scott
