  • Oregon finale - Coming Soon! Check this out.

    Greetings to everyone,

Summer is almost over I got to get out on the road before the Northwest rains set in for their winter hibernation over me and the rest of us up here in the lovely Pacific Northwest. Jeff Trapp with his 78E and I have come up with a ride through Oregon that is sure to be a blast, in more than one sense. Read this over and if your'e interested, get in touch with me and we can work out any necessary details. As always, my house is always available as a pre/post ride crash site.

Day 1/Sept 15: Leave Portland early and head out highway 26 towards Mt. Hood, grab some breakast in Sandy, OR. Cross over the pass and head east on highway 216 towards Maupin. Maupin to Shaniko (backroads), Shaniko to Antelope via Hwy 218 into Fossil, Hwy 19 to Hwy 26 through John Day to Baker City via Hwy 7. We will spend the night at Jeff's dad's ranch in North Powder with hot tub and the works! Approx 350 miles.

Day 2/Sept 16: Leave Baker after breakfast and head east on Hwy 86 for 60 miles and then turn north on backroad (Route 39) for 55 miles to intercept Hwy 350 just outside Joseph and Wallowa Lake. Lunch in Joseph and then blast to La Grande via Hwy 82 (70 miles) then 15 or so miles down I-84 back to North Powder and another night at the ranch. Approx 225 miles.

Day 3/Sept 17: Leave Baker early after breakfast and head out South on Hwy 7 to Hwy 245 South to Hwy 26 south at Unity. We'll peel of 12 miles south of Unity onto road 16 and head through monument rock wilderness and end up at Seneca on Hwy 395. South on 395 to Burns, West on Hwy 20 for 30 miles then South on 395 for 37 miles to the turnoff west toward Christmas Valley. X-mas valley to Silver lake and then Road 76 to Hwy 97. We'll shoot up to Crater lake for a ride around the rim and then down to Diamond Lake for dinner in the lodge and camping. Approx 400 miles.

Day 4/Sept 18: Breakfast at the lodge at Diamond Lake(great all you can eat buffet) and then back to Hwy 97 north to Cresent. From Cresent to Bend on the Cascade Lakes Highway (Awesome twisties and fast new pavement!!) From Bend to Sisters on Highway 20 though to Detroit. North from Detroit on road 46 through old growth forest to our destination of Bagby Hot Springs for an evening of soaking, hard-core relaxing, and camping. Approx 250 miles.

Day 5/Sept 19: Wake up and head an hour into Estacada for coffee and breakfast. From there we are about 45 minutes back into Portland for whatever anyone wants to do. Head for home, Lunch, Tech., Etc...

We plan to stay east of the cascades as much as possible for the best possible sun and temperatures. Our two nights of camping will be in the High Desert and temps could be in the 30's so pack accordingly. This is some of the best scenery that Oregon has to offer and it should be an amazing trip. There are plenty of stops for food and gas along the way and flexibility will be our main driving force. As always, any input is appreciated and we look foward to seeing any and all that can make it.

    See ya on the road,

    Jeremy

Looks like a good route. I have been on all those roads and they are great (5 years of RC runs).

If I can get my brother, Geff to join us, I will meet up with you in Portland. If not I will meet up with you in Maupin.

It is about 75 miles from Sandy to Maupin on 26/216. If you can give me some idea when you would be coming through Maupin, I'll be there. I will come down through The Dallas on 197.

At bend I will spit off north on 97. Probably spend the night in The Dallas.

      Timing is everything!

Jeff and I will be at the Denny's - no pun intended - in Sandy (on the west end) at about 8:00 am. Give us about an hour for breakfast, leaving Sandy at 9:00 am, should put us in Maupin around 10:30 or so. Maupin is a small town so we should be easy to find. There is a small city park right downtown and we could plan to meet there. It would be great to see your brother again if he came, if not, tell him hi for me.

      See ya soon,

      Jeremy

I can only go Sunday. After Fossil we hit Hwy 26 I'll have to head home. I'll be at Denny's in Sandy, I get there through Eagle Creek. See you then.

Sounds like a great ride Jeremy. I wish I could make it.
Even if I had those days off I would probably get stuck with OT anyway.
Hope you guys have a great ride.
