    Group:
I'm having a difficult time deciding on our base for next years rally, so I'm going to go ahead and put it up for discussion.
I've found two very different hotels for us that will both fill our needs.
Choice one is a place called the Lakeside Motel. It's an old timey park in front of your room hotel. It's in the boonies. It's got 38 rooms so we would have the place to ourselves. It's set on a beautiful piece of land with a lake that you can fish at if you care to. Those are the pros. The cons are it's in the boonies. There's no place for breakfast except for a McDonalds in the town of Beverly just down the road. I found a great place for dinners but it's 15 miles away. 15 awesome miles, but 15 just the same. The price is 60-65 per night. The grounds really are nice and it's surrounded by green so we wouldn't be stuck standing around in a parking lot. I really like this place and if you guys could work around the breakfast thing, it would be ideal.
This link is for the golf course next door. Follow the link for the hotel to get an idea of the joint.http://lakesidegolfcourse.net/lodging.html

Choice two is a Holiday Inn Express located in Athens. It's surrounded by the usual chain eateries and is within walking distance to the hotel. It's very nice and has all the amenities. I would have jumped on it if not for the price which is $95+tax per night. That's a little steep for me, but I could swing it I suppose.
I'll let this post simmer for a few days to allow everyone interested to respond. Please give me your honest input and not just a Hey, it's up to you!
BTW, you guys are gonna love these roads!

Considering the main thing that keeps me from attending most events like this is the cost, I choose the cheaper one. Besides, is there really anything wrong with having an excuse to ride an extra 15 miles somewhere?

well on the occasions that I have attended one of these functions I have observed that dinner is very often the primer for the really get down to it drinking and maybe riding 15 miles primed is maybe not a good idea

Yup. Boonies win for me, too. If a guy doesn't have the smarts to go easy on the hooch till he's at home base, well then he should stay home.

Drinking and riding has never been an issue at any of the rallies I've attended. It's one of the things I like best about our group.
The place we would be eating at is dry anyway, although it is byob if, like me, you just need an arrogant bastard sitting across from you.

                Hi Mark,
There will be enough Arrogant Bastrards to fill a table. Then we can go for a Beer

I would hate to be the one that says this, But Mark in any Rally that I have been involed in Drinking has been talked about. In Somerset we had drunk Canadian's looking for food at 1 in the morning. My vote is close to food
                  .

I like boonies. Even if you are in the heart of the city you still may not find something to eat at 1am. Damn Canadians!!!
Riding for supper doesn't have to be bad. We have done it before. More than once I believe! I think I have ridden in the back of a pickup once.

It would be nice to have a breakfast place there at the motel for a fresh start with a full stomach without stopping, feed and regrouping. But not a deal breaker.

So I guess I should go vote.

Tom: Thank God one of you drunk Canadians sobered up enough to type a retort. The silence of the North was becoming unbearable.
It's not like there's nothing around. As I said, the town of Beverly does have a McD's, Dominos Subway and a full on service station.

With a little bit of googling there appears to be a sit down eatery in Beverly. Don't know whether it will still be open come May. Waterford might have something as well, I haven't looked there.....
