    Time for an update...

Well, my trip was great. I left with 3/4 of a tank of gas and when I filled up in Boonville I was averaged 32 mpg, not a suprise as thats what I normally get around town and on short trips. I ate some brunch then proceeded to top off. I decided to took Moose River Road through the Sand Flats State Forest which follows a wonderful winding river with round river rocks the size of buses. I wish I stopped to take a picture! I was too busy carving out the corners and dodging porcupines. Once I got into Old Forge I took a quick stop here.

Just needed to strech the legs a little bit, overall I was feeling good and it was finially warming up as it was in the low/mid 60's when I started at 8:30 am.

Continued North up RT 28 a ways more and saw a sign for a observation tower so I decided to ride up there and see what it was all about. Little did I know it was Bald Mountain...

First I drove up the road past the hiking trail to see if I stumbled upon a twisty back road. I snapped a few pictures and turned around because the pavement ended...

I rode back to the hiking trail and decided to go for a climb. Here are the pictures on my way.

These pictures were about half way up the trail, you can see the path was massive granit chunks protruding from the earth... As I climbed it got warm fast, I realized I was over dressed very quick.

The tower at the top of the trail was used for spotting fires by the rangers a long time ago. There use to be a cabin up there too but is no longer there. I would have taken a picture of the tower but there were a few squads of national guardsmen in the way when I got there. So... I climbed the tower took a 360 deg video of the view and hiked back down...

        (Video on its way later.)

I jumped on the bike and hit the road again, by that time I was a little sweaty and second guessing the hiking decision knowing I had more than two more hours left on the bike.

The next stop I took was up at the Seventh or Eighth lake, cant remember at this point. When I pulled in a ranger was very interested in my bike so we talked for a little while. He informed my that National Geographic was there a week ago to use the background in their magazine...

Back on the bike again and still heading north on Rt 28... took a quick stop at South Bay to snap this picture.

Than another down the road some...

        This is Blue Mountain Lake...

I forgot where I took this picture, there was a large pull off once I got on Rt 28/30 south and figured it would be the last stop for a while... I cant wait to revisit this when the leaves change colors!

Took Rt 30 south all the way to Rt 8 junction in Speculator and made a stop at Plesant Lake...

After that, I pounded my way home. Kinda funny though, I rode through the town of Ohio and Russia on my way to Rome. I swear you can tour the country if not the globe while staying in NY.

It was a hike Phil, took me about 40 mins to reach the top... I will have another crack at this same riding route in another few weeks. I was by myself on this one... Im sure these 'hills' and rocks are small compared to what you guys up north have (out in the country )...

My Droid was running low on power b/c I played Pandora on my way up to Old Forge, next time Im going to have to bring a camera!

            Hi WMarshy,
While we do have some really big rocks our hills are about the same as yours here in Ontario. Nice pictures of your ride. (bike and scenery)

              Great Pics

From the Swiss Army Knife of phones. My Blackberry color shifts the photos even though the resolution can be set quite high, it seams to prefer inside lighting.
