The Bikes are back in town! The Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce, JAYBRAKE, and the Greater Olean Motorcycle Enthusiasts will be hosting the Seventh Annual Rally in the Valley August 21-23 (held rain or shine) in Olean all at one location - Bradner Stadium, 550 East State Street, Olean. The three-day event is a motorcycle rally with the proceeds from the event benefiting a host of community charities: Cattaraugus County Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, Inc.; Interfaith Caregivers; DARE Program; HomeCare & Hospice; Olean Airport Support Group; Southern Tier Military Support; South Olean Football; and Healthy Families of Cattaraugus. Rally in the Valley was introduced to the area by local business leaders who saw what other communities have done with similar events. They knew the event would draw many people from outside the area. Since 2003, the event has grown: in terms of number of days held (2-3); number of dice run participants (149 - 863); number of contests (3-7); and spectators (2,500 - 8,330).
FRIDAY NIGHT CONCERT - Friday, August 21, the Rally will kick off the weekend with a MOTORCYCLE PARADE from the Olean Middle School to Bradner Stadium at 6 PM. A free concert will feature regional band, The Oliverios, from 7-10 PM. The Rally will also present the second annual BYOBW-- Bring your own Big Wheel Adult Race! The event runs 5:30 PM - 11 PM.
CERTO BROTHERS SATURDAY FUN & GAMES - On Saturday, August 22, the stadium will be turned into a street festival with a variety of activities, including bike contests, bands, foods, and vendors. The event runs 11 AM - 11 PM. Come join us as a spectator or event better - a participant. Test your motorcycling skills and balance at the Biker Rodeo. Compete for a chance to win cash prizes. The bike contests include slow ride (tests a rider's balance at a very slow speed in lanes 3 feet wide and 50 ft. long), ball drop (passenger tries to place tennis balls on the top of the cones), tire toss (passenger tosses bicycle tires on top of these cones), and hot dog (the passenger attempts to bite off a dangling hot dog covered in mustard). Enter your rides in the annual bike show. Show them off, let everyone enjoy them. Then let our judges make the tough decisions of who has the best bikes at this year’s rally. We’ll be proudly presenting awards in 9 different categories. Ride Napalm the Mechanical Bull -- new this year!
The musical entertainment on Saturday includes the Olean’s Blue Brothers and the band, Charlie Wheeler Band. Food is plentiful all weekend! Food vendors will have something for everyone. Menu items include sandwiches, pizza, fried dough, Texas hots, tacos, milkshakes, nachoes, biker burgers, roasted corn, and more. Retail vendors will have motorcycle accessories, clothing, sunglasses, leather wear, motorcycles, even a truck/trailer to haul your motorcycle! Saturday will also mark the return of the trick riders who use their bikes to climb over obstacles like cars, tree logs, and fly over people!
SUNDAY DICE RUN - Sunday, August 23, the bikes will take to the run and complete an approximate 130-mile Dice Run ending at Bradner Stadium in Olean with a food, music, prizes and more. The bikers will compete for $2,000 in dice run cash prizes. Rally has lined up the band Steel Reign to entertain from 3 - 6 PM.
Tickets are available for a chance to win a 2009 Harley-Davidson Flame Blue Pearl Electra Glide®. The tickets are $20 with a limit of 1,500 tickets to be sold. From the new comfort-stitched saddle to the six-speed 96 cubic-inch engine, you'll see what makes logging miles on a big Harley so addictive. Other key touches on the Electra Glide include a redesigned frame, front forks and rear shocks, new cast aluminum wheels with Dunlop tires, redesigned isolated drive system, rubber-mounted, 1584 cc Twin Cam 96 Engine, New 2-1-2 exhaust system, “Bat Wing”, Fork-Mounted Fairing, Lexan® Windshield, Full-Length Rider and Passenger Footboards, One-Piece, Two Up Classic Seat, Injection-Molded GTX® Saddlebags and King Tour-Pak. Tickets are available to purchase before the event at the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce and during the event at the Rally Registration Booth.
