    Spark plug cap resistor removal

    Okay, we're gonna remove the resistor from the short NGK5 caps used on cyl 1+4.

    Get some 5/16 oak dowel rod and drill a small hole in the end.



    Thread it on the screw where the wire attaches.



    Put the dowel in a vice leaving a small gap so a screwdriver can be used to pry.



    The piece you are removing is held in there with 2 star washers, making it appear to be non-removable.



    Now, find a piece of metal the appropriate length and put it in place of the resistor.



    Reassemble the spring and metal bolt and with the screw and star washer attached to the wooden dowel, tap it back into the housing.

    I just bought one of the last sets of non-resistor plugs I could find.

    Same thing on my 750.

    I assume XS11 cylinders 2&3 also have resistors?

      Yes, the longer caps for cylinders 2+3 have resistors which can be removed rather easily. Use a flat head screwdriver to unscrew the piece at the spark plug end of the cap.

        Nice description. Any chance of pictures at this point?

          Tighten screw with star washers flush with dowel before pushing back into the cap.
