That is a non-USA serial number. It should fit a 1978 Standard model. In 1978 there were 2 colors available: Macho Maroon red and silver (I forgot the official name for that silver color). The factory did not have records which said which serial number came with which color. Some countries in Europe did mention the color on their first registration form but in later years it was no longer necessary and was removed when the bike got a new owner. If you want to return it to stock condition I suggest you use either the red or the silver colour. Take the one you like the most. The silver colour is the rarest because all first batches where delivered in red. The colors can be duplicated by the better painters and you can come close with spray cans but there are no records of how to replicate the colors. Striping can be bought on Ebay once in a while but beware... most sellers sell the '79 striping for the black/gold color which is slightly different to the '78.

I just found out the name of the factory silver colour for the '78 and '79: Crystal Silver
Colour is in the right colum.

@cajun31: I've been looking at this link you posted: Serial Number & Model Identification
As you can see the silver '78 and '79 is not mentioned, same for the '79 black and gold 2H9. Alas there are several other mistakes in the list (for the non US bikes that is.

Thank you for this!, I purchased the bike around 2 years ago and it was sold to me as a Martini edition that was sprayed silver at some point in its life!. this answers the suspicion that its actually a 78 silver that someone has added a silver martini fairing too.

I will sell the fairing separately and restore to original silver.

Good to see you're still there.

Not necessarily. The fairings were later sold separately via the dealers. But after the Martini version was introduced the Dutch importer (don't know of the other countries) started mounting the separate fairings to new bikes and sold them as a package. Both the red and silver version. When I had my silver '78 one day in the dealers' shop it was standing next to a new silver one with that fairing. So you can treat it as factory original.

If you still want to sell it first check if it is genuine Martini fairing. The official Martini fairings have numbers embedded in the fibreglass on the inside of both lower fairings. The numbers vary from 001 to 500.
The (known) frame- and engine numbers from Martini's still around at this moment are between 2H9-120120 and 120587.
                      Good luck.

This is a brilliant piece of information! Thanks for this as I couldn’t find a single image of a silver XS with full fairing anywhere on the internet. Mystery solved I think. I will check the fairing tomorrow although fairly certain they have always been silver now. Thanks again

I am glad I could help.
I did make a mistake however (due to age probably).
The fairings were there before the Martini edition which was in 1979, you can tell by the frame numbers. The pictures below show that the bikes with the fairings were already available in 1978 (later the fairings were sold separately. (my guess is after the Martini presentation). They also show official documents/ads from the UK and France (I guess) which show the importer made them not only for the Netherlands but for Europe.
