  • Air box screws

    Hi can someone please make a sketch of the two different wingnut screws that remove the bottom part of the air box. just the length and position of the R clip holes. the previous owner has put long philips screws that make it impossible to remove.

    Hopefully this will help you?

    30mm with R clip hole at 15mm
    57mm with R clip hole at 42mm

    Let us know if you can get those pesky phillips out. Hope they are NOT rusted in too badly. Sure not much room to get at them between the bottom airbox cover and the engine.

        Thank you very much guys .
        There was a lot of swearing and cut hands but got the freaking thing out, now will make new parts from stainless.
        Idiots should not be aloud to touch bikes.
        Once again for the help from very hot South Africa.

          two wheel fun.
          In Africa we do not have all the fancy tools, so we battle and swear but it gets done. I have a 1981 SH 1100.
          I have a CNC company so can make all parts I need
          ed.

            Just measured the the long screws that came out. 110 mm end the other100 mm.
            Please help.

              If you have the bottom of the box off, pull the rest of the airbox out and work with it on the bench. You are 15 minutes from getting it out of the frame at this point.

                Hi. don't need to take the carbs off, just wanted to see the filter. If someone could please give me the measurement for the R clip holes it would make things a lot easier to refit the cover.

                    You already have the R clip measurements and the photo to prove it. Probably you don't need somebody else to give you same 30mm and 57mm.

                    So something is wrong. PO probably did some hacking?
                    Photo enclosed is the XS11 Air Box Lower with the bottom air filter with bolts and R clips per the measurements I sent you yesterday.

                    So what does your Air Box upper look like? If it doesn't look like this then something is wrong somehow.
                    This (per photo) is what it "should" look like. To install the lower I just align lower to the upper then give the 2 30mm wing bolts a few turns and same for the 2 57mm wing bolts or screws or whatever you want to call them. Send us a photo of what you are looking at.

                    If the proper lengths are 30mm and 57mm then you need to figure out why you are pulling out 100mm and 110mm length bolts.

                    Hope that helps. Let us know. Try and get a photo of the upper and post it so we can see why you are having an issue.

                        Upper portion looks the same as my XS11's...except the plastic PCV tubes should be directed into the inside of each rubber coupler.

                        However, mine don't have cotter pins on the wing-nut bolts passing through the lower half. Mine have a cardboard push-on washer that keeps them in place until you screw them in.
