• front brake question

Well I have my new ss lines on, and am happy with them.
But my front brake lever bleeds down, what i mean is when you first squeeze it it's hard as a rock, and I could do a skid or "stoppie" as some call it, but then it slowely comes in to the handle bars and loses braking. Do I just need a rebuild kit, or could someone that has fixed this before explain it to me.

Also there are now leaks, or air in the system.

thanks in advance.

Hey XJ11 John,

I remember in my old car driving days, when I had that symptom, that it was time for a MC rebuild, cause water would settle in the piston chamber of the old cast iron MC's, and then it would develop rust, and that rust would abrade the pressure cups, and so then it would slowly leak fluid and pressure past the cup due to the damage to the edge of the cup.

Our MC's are aluminum, so they don't usually get RUST in them, but they can still wear out, so a rebuild kit should fix it!

Thanks T.C.

I ended up ordering one from the guy in our church that has a MC shop and I should get it wednesday.

Have a good day, and thanks for the reply,

After getting my new master cylinder from Parts n More, I wouldn't ever go back to trying to rebuild. It's superior to anything I had before.

Braking Biblically"

Yea... though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death because my brakes don't work... my Pressure Cup runneth over, or otherwise alloweth brake fluid to slippeth by like a thief in the night. Verily, I say unto you, offer up a monetary sacrifice and get a kit. It is better to rebuild upon the temple of braking than to purchase another cylinder. A man cannot serve two Masters!

Rust not, the inner chamber of the Master, but the waters of Jordan can surely corrode the cheap aluminum and the corruption of the fluid therein can mar the walls of this sanctuary. It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rubber disk to abide and slide in this den of iniquity and filth.

Cleanse this chamber well... in which the new parts shall dwell. Wrap fine abrasive parchment round about the tool of the scribes(a pencil, to you heathens) and lightly polish the walls till they gleam like a graven image.

After your toils are over and the task is completed, you shall offer up a further sacrifice. You must now bleed your sacred fluids.

So shall it be written... so shall it be done.
