  • Carbs carbs carbs

So, not that I am proud of the fact, but I think I am going for the record number of times of pulling carbs in a single day. This is going to be a running thread, cause I know I am going to have more questions as they come up.

First question of the day, broken pilot screw on the carbs. The old one is the orriginal style I guess...umm...same as in the clymer on the carb diagrams. I have a couple of new rebuild kits I got off ebay though, that have a new style, I guess the one that screws right into shaft. Threads are the same so will this work for me? or do I have to go on a tracking mission. If I figure out how to post pictures around here, I will get one up of the two screws so you know what I am talking about...Thanks

The one on the left looks like a broken tip '78-'79. The one on the right looks like a good '80-'81.

you get an A in tip class...lol...anyways, are they interchangable? and how the heck do I shrink this picture so it doesn't take up so much space

(Moderator note: - I replaced your image with a significantly downsized version. Next time, try to resize to 640x480 before you upload to your ISP's webspace and all will be fine. KT)

          Hey Arctic,

I thought it was Ken that recommended putting your OLD needle into a drill chuck or such so that you can spin it, and take a file, or grinding stone, and gently grind it against it to reshape and make a new point! Use one of your other good old ones for a guide! I don't think the newer style one will work cause it might not engage the threads in the tower soon enough before it bottoms out against the carb throat!?

ya your right, they wont work...but at least I tried...lol...now the fun part of robbing parts off the new set of carbs to rebuild the old set. I should be able to get at least one set of working carbs out of ths deal...I am sure of it, god I hope so.
