  • odd problem with cam chain

i replaced the cam chain adjuster with another one that didn't leak
well i compressed the plunger and screwed it to the motor
then i reliesed it, expecting to hear it decompress
    i didn't hear anything
so i unscrewed the lock bolt 2 turns, still nothing
so i pulled the unit out again and it didn't uncompress,
i lossened the bolt and it the plunger moved freely
so i installed it again and loosened the lockbolt
    no sound
so i loosened the 2 bolts that hold it onto the motor
1/2 turn and i heard a clunk, the plunger moving
so i assume that it may rub on the side of the motor
stopping it from moving when the lockbolt is loosened

    so my question is
    anybody else had that experence??

good thing i didn't start it up thinking that it was adjusted tight

Haven't had that experience myself, maybe just lucky. The plunger might be sticking because of a small burr from where the lock bolt has been pressing against it over the years, Remove the assembly, take it apart, and inspect the plunger for smooth operation. If you find a burr, smooth it with a fine file and put it back together. Be sure the flat side of the plunger orients properly to the end of the lock bolt.
