You got that right. For no good reason they put different plugs on the same R/R unit. You can cut and splice the wires and put your plugs on a XS11 unit. The wire colors are all the same.

I can't get the plugs the XJ1100 uses so with the ones I make (on request,) I toss in the plugs to change the wiring harness to match the unit.

Hey, I was wondering if you had one of those regulators still that would fit my XJ. If they don't have the connectors, I will just snip mine and solder them. I was also wondering if you accepted Paypal... would be easier than sending a money order.
I was worried about hooking up this new regulator and burning it out if there were still other problems. I am still getting 9 ohms off of my rotor, same as the other one, even though I have swapped everything. Do you think it would hurt this new R/R unit... or do I need to figure the other stuff out first?

I need to update the XS11 R/R section ro reflect that after these 2 units, this item will be out of stock for until about the middle of May. Some of the stuff I need to make them is on back order...

Anyway PayPal is fine and I'll send the extra connectors along in case you want to try them but since it's for an XJ, I'll send it with the connetors in a bag rather than installed.

Do you think I am still having problems that would burn up a new R/R unit? What caused the old one to go out? Worried about forking out the bucks for a new one... then having to do it again because something else is messed up.

You won't burn out one of my R/R units. A certain number of electrical parts will just fail with age some time down the road. It was just their time...

I get the most out of my units by building them so heavy duty, they're tough to kill. Did you notice the length of the warranty?

I just got the R/R unit in today. Thank you. I will crimp and solder the ends you sent and install it tomorrow.... raining like crazy today. I didn't have you put them on because I thought the XS used a different plug... oh well. The unit looks great. I hope this takes care of my problems.

BTW, NAPA carries a crimper that will properly crimp those open barrel terminals. It's around 20 bucks the last I checked.

The weather sucks here too... I managed to get a ride in to the post office and Costo to pick up my meds before the skys turned dark.

Anyway I've spent to much time today screwing around and I have bikes to fix...

OK Geezer,

I started puting on the connectors. I am assuming you wired these with the same color of wires I need. The big plug gets 3 white wires, and a brown and green wire. The smaller plug gets the two black wires and a red. The original smaller plug has 2 red wires and 2 black. Which side of the plug needs the single red... the top or bottom? Or, on the mate for this plug on my bike, do I need to piggy-back the 2 reds together to go to that one pin that will match the new single red wire?

Yes all the wire colors match the stock unit.

Both of the red wires connect in the harness just upstream from the R/R unit so you can either splice them or not. According to the wiring diagram, it's all the same...

I'm currently working on an XJ and I plan to map out the wirng on the R/R unit before the bike gets out of my hands. I do have the other plug the XJ uses and I will be able to offer these as a plug&play unit for the XJ1100 in the future.

Does it matter which order the white wires go into the plug? Or the black ones on the other plug?

Both black wires go to ground. The white AC output leads are interchangable and that's why they're all the same color... ;o)

Well, I got the R/R unit put together and installed. I measured the voltage in the battery really quick (12.2V... a little low) to compare to see if it was charging on a ride. Fired it up and rode about 20 minutes. When I got back the batttery had the exact same reading, so not really charging, (But not going dead either) .and my tach is STILL not working Tired of messing with it today. I lost my tach back when I changed out the stator, rotor, and brushes. Might put the original brushes and stator back in tomorrow and see what happens. Might just try brushes first... then stator. One thing at a time to see what happens. It's not the battery, I just forgot to charge it back up after last time.
